11th grade, was in AP US History when we started to hear rumblings about it. Our teacher didn't put on the TV. Next was band, which was outside, and we didn't put on a tv or anything. Then lunch. By the time I actually saw what happened, it was the early afternoon.

I was in Chicago for a trade show. When I woke that morning, I turned on CNN while getting ready, and saw the second plane hit. Chicago was a mess that day. Many rumors about the Sears Tower being a target. I was staying downtown. By the afternoon, the city was a ghost town. If you have ever stayed in downtown Chicago, one of the things you always notice is the heavy air traffic overhead. Once the planes were ordered down, it was strange not to see them. I also saw 2 fighter jets buzzing up and down the waterfront. That was scary. We were stuck in Chicago for 2 more days because we flew there, and no rental cars were available. Finally, the company sent a driver from home to pick us up.

It is a time I will never forget.

Does anyone else remember seeing Air force One returning to Washington pass over Columbus about 5:30pm that day? It was being escorted by two fighters and they were the only planes that had been in the sky since about Noon. I was walking my dog on the golf course (which was empty for a warm Sept day) and I remember looking up and saying a little personal encouragement for "W" even though I had never voted for him, I knew right then and there his was the toughest job in the world.

I was getting ready for school. Then I spent the rest of the day drinking beer. But I remember the NY Giants playing at Denver on MNF the night before. That's why I always remember 9/11 was on a Tuesday. Ed McCafferey broke his leg that night while making a great catch and he never lost the ball. That was pretty much the end of his career. I remember thinking how bad he must have felt being done for the whole rest of the season, how it must be the worst thing ever. But, things like that were put into perspective soon after...

Just finished my summer lifeguarding job I was 19 and about ready to start my fall/winter job. I had just woke up and was watching sportscenter when my girlfriend called me ( who is now Mrs.Heelz) calls and told me to turn the tv to the NBC. When I did the 1st plane had already hit and I said "Is this a movie" and just as I said that the other plane came into view, just as I said "that plane is really close to....." Boom the other one hit. I spent the rest of the day watching NBC, I went to my buddies place where he and another friend were sleeping ( they worked 3 shift) I went in and made them turn on the TV and they both said " Is this a movie".

Was heading off to Weirton/Steubenville area for sales calls. Had stopped at the intersection of 151/250 to wait for a call, when Bill Wills on WTAM interupted their programming to talk about a plane crashing into the first tower. Made my way to Steubenville, and stopped at Damon's to watch things on TV. Of course that night was glued to the tube.

I was across the river from the WTC on that unforgettable day in Hoboken, NJ, where I was living at the time (I actually was off from work). Here is a photo my friend took the next day, Sept. 12, 2001 ... I didn't see the initial crash, but lived through everything else. I had 4 friends who worked in the WTC -- everyone survived (although my one friend had glass from one of the windows go through her foot):

Here is a photo from earlier that year, similar location:

Mrs. Easterday's 6th grade Science class. The room was dark because we were looking at overheads and someone came in and told us to turn the tv on. By that time the first plane had already hit and we really didn't know what was going on. Before the second plane hit the principal came over the PA and told the teachers to turn all TVs off for the rest of the day. I really didn't know what happened until I got home that day and my parents were watching the news.

11th grade Study Hall. Word started to spread, and they let us go into a classroom and watch the TV coverage. Sad sad day.

Screw schools that made the teachers turn off the coverage. That honestly pisses me off. It was the defining moment for a nation and maybe a generation.

towards the end of 8th grade Social Studies class. We weren't doing anything at that point in class, and our study hall teacher knocked on the door and told my teacher. He flipped on the TV and we watched it from then on.

I was in french class and my teacher told us what happened in French and then turned on the t.v. We had football practice that night and our coach gave a speech saying that we should go on doing what we would normally do and the team we played that week, the Perkins Pirates, didn't have practice and there was a big stink about whether we should have or shouldn't have practiced.

QFT.

I was in bed because it was still technically summer for me (OSU hadn't started yet and I went out the night before). My dad called me and told me we were under attack and I laughed (bc I of course thought he was bs'n me). He told me to turn the TV on and I saw the first building fall about 2 minutes after I turned the tv on. Was unreal. He told me to march down to the recruiters office the next day, but me being a big vagina decided college was a better route.

Somehow, as much as you want your life to stil lremain normal, there's no way I could advocate practicing that night, let alone use the fact that my opponent isn't practicing as a motivational factor
