Cueto thru 5 inngs on 67 pitches, with 6 outs after the rain delay on 23 pitches. Now an official game, for rain-out purposes, with the Reds 4-2 lead.

Cueto uses 24 pitches to barely get through the 6th with the 4-2 lead intact. With the movement he has, he is nibbling too much. So that is 3 inning pitched for Cueto on each side of the delay, and 44 pitches before and 47 after. It would be prudent to get him out of the game now!

Why won't Bruce go with the pitch the opposite way? Is he still trying to get back his robbed homer from Friday night?

Especially now at 6-2 Cueto needs out with this long half inning. Does Dusty even have anyone warming in the pen? If he leaves Cueto in, expect a concentration failure again!

Desmond steals 2nd on Gomes who has a lack of focus to realize that possibility and position himself to prevent it! Then makes a great play to get the next out down the line.

Be nice to sweep the Nats. They are getting better and we have to face Strausburg on Weds so that makes it a bit more difficult.

Do you see the Reds having 3 catchers if Rolen goes on the DL? If they bring Hernandez back and keep Hanigan, then they have to give up Corky I think, surely he doesn't have any options. Then what would they do when Rolen comes back? I would think just Votto, Cairo, Phillips, Cabrera, and Janish could cover the infield for the short term while Rolen finishes a DL stint.

Dear BP,
THAT is how you run to first on a ground ball.
Love,
Mr. Gomes.

The Nats aren't really getting better. They are 19-34 since May 15th.gerb131;427533 wrote:Be nice to sweep the Nats. They are getting better and we have to face Strausburg on Weds so that makes it a bit more difficult.

Nice start to the series after a deflating loss yesterday. Remaining 1/2 game back of the Cards.

Nice win, can't wait til Dickerson comes back, hopefully in the next week or so. Stubbs gets a SB today after an attempt at a bunt hit yesterday, hopefully his confidence is back.

What don't you like about him? Other than his propensity to K a little too much for a leadoff hitter, there's not much to dislike. Sure he can't stay healthy, but if he is you have to take advantage. He can play all 3 OF spots. Would you rather keep Nix? Or bring up Gary Matthews Jr?

Good win to start the series. Best way to treat a long season, especially a 2nd half when you're in contention is not to look at the whole picture but to break each stretch down series by series, and focus on winning series. Makes things that much more palatable.

Here is my problem Dickerson...
sure I just as well have him to use as opposed to Mathews Jr or Nix....but the problem is Dusty will use him way more than he uses Nix.....Dusty will find reasons to put him in for Gomes and he'll take Stubbs' place and I'd much rather have Stubbs and Gomes.
Dusty will overuse Dickerson

As long as Nix is the one who goes when Dickerson returns, I'd be okay with it. However, knowing Dusty, the following will be true:
A) Chris Heisey will go, Laynce Nix will stay
B) Chris Dickerson will be remembered as a starter and actually play over Stubbs or Gomes, whereas now, Nix and Heisey are comfortably backups
That's my issue. If Dickerson comes back, steps into Nix's role and THAT'S IT, I'm totally fine with him. He brings more to the table than Nix. However, I have a feeling he will be "worked in" to the regular OF rotation because that's where he was last year and before he got hurt, and quite honestly, I can't handle that.

Gomes was not mashing last year. Every interview I see with Dusty he always talks about how he loves Jonny, I don't see him losing much playing time. He's already approaching his career high in games and at bats though, I think Dickerson and Heisey could each get a start out there every 10 games and Gomes still starts 80%. Jonny is also very poor on the road compared to his home numbers, it's actually pretty scary how different they are so rest him on the road if possible.
Actually I think giving Dickerson and Heisey a start every 10 games in each outfield spot would be ideal, giving all 3 starters a break every 5 days.

Wow Mike Leake always gets the shaft. I still think there is a W out there with that lineup though.
Wonder if Rolen is going on the DL?
