Saw it this afternoon. I agree with the majority on this one. This movie was fantastic. EASILY one of the best movies I have ever seen. I put it in my personal top 3 of all time.

Inception won't make as much as Avatar (again, God that movie was stupid) or Revenge of the Sith, but it is a far superior film.
I can agree that Avatar was predictable, but that's not why it was as popular as it was. When people look back at the history of film as an art form, this is THE movie they will remember for kickstarting 3D in movies. Depending on how long the 3D thing lasts will ultimately depend on just how legendary Avatar is remembered. It's not like Cameron or Avatar invented the 3D experience, BUT in 10 years Avatar will be the only blockbuster movie remembered that used it in the early stages of 3D. Put it this way...it's like MJ introducing the world to the "moonwalk". Did he invent it? Hell no. Did he make it famous? Absolutely. Because he was the one that had enough star power to do it. "Avatar" is the same vehicle, just in different medium. It wasn't sold for it's plot. It was sold for it's originality, stunning detail in visual effects and it's availability in 3D. It's not exactly like Alien or Terminator 2 had an epic original or creative plots btw.

And I agree, Inception is twice the movie Avatar was in terms of plot and story detail. But Avatar was 10x's the movie of any other film you'll see this year (or probably for the next few years) in terms of visual effects and what I like to call "completeness"...meaning that it took 10 years to make, Cameron left no stone unturned and spared NO expense in order to make the film far above what most films can do in a 8-12 months of production/postproduction. It's apples to Oranges really.

I don't know. And they just remodeled it too. New lobby, seats, bathrooms, everything. Place is awesome.

SPOILER

Also, I saw Inception again tonight and I didn't realize how much the dialogue repeats throughout the movie. Kinda makes me think that he was still dreaming/in Limbo.

SPOILER

I saw it again last night as well and I was convinced at the end of it the first time that he was awake. I tried going in this time to look for clues that took it the other way. While dialogue does repeat I think there is a way to distinguish his dreams from reality. Cobb's clothes are a good indicator. When Ellen Page's character goes into his dream as well as other flash backs of his dream Cobb is always wearing a blue button down shirt that isn't buttoned and he has a gray t-shirt on underneath it. His clothes change to this each flashback, even when Page and Cobb go into limbo to find Fischer Jr.

To explain why his kids were the same size or appeared similar even though Cobb was gone, something was very telling in limbo. When Cobb told the story about the day with the train he envisioned himself and his wife in their youth. Yet when the camera showed them holding hands on the track, they are elderly people holding hands. I think (and this is a stretch) that he projects people as he last remembers how they look. So when he sees his children they are still the same size, wearing the same clothes as they were when he left. I probably saw too many car commercials where they show like a little kid asking their dad to borrow a car and when the camera flashes back the kid is like 16 or 17. But to the dad they are always the little kid. I thought it might be that type of thing.

Either way, I don't think there is a right answer. There was something else I noticed too but I can't remember it now.

Yeah I know. But no of them are close to each other. Maumee is closed. Levis is 20 minutes from the Mall, and Fallen Timbers is probably 20 minutes as well. I wasnt gonna drive all over in hopes they werent sold out as well.

Same just saw it again as well. A lot of "leap of faith" and "idea/spreading like a virus" talk occurred throughout the movie.

I don't necessarily disagree, but after watching Aliens again this past weekend, it is clear that for its time (1986? 1987?) it is a far superior film. Avatar's plot was so gloriously stupefying it ruined the 3-D effects.

Sort of spoiler:

the scene where Michelle Rodriguez just walked in with a gun and "released" the prisoners was the most hackneyed, idiotic plot point I've ever seen. And Stephen Lang hammed up more than a Smithfield ham. Sure, the plot of Aliens was simple, but at least it had characters and exciting moments. Avatar simply sucked.

Anyone else think the setup for the whole job and the way they found the architect and explained everything before the job unnecessary(save for maybe the backstory about the wife between cobb and Juno)? I thought these beginning parts could have been done better, but once they started the job it was very good.

I understand what you're saying, but I think the details were necessary to allow the viewer to have a better understanding of the process of Inception/Extraction. If they would have avoided those aspects, the movie may have been more confusing.

SPOILER ...

One theory that I thought of (which may be way off base): the only time (before the final scene) that we see Cobb's father is early in the movie, when Cobb visits him at his lab/office somewhere in the U.S. We know that Cobb left the U.S. after the death of his wife, so we can conclude that this is a dream. The only other time we see his father is at the end of the movie -- unless I am mistaken, he doesn't appear as a projection at any other time. So can we assume that the only time Cobb sees his father is in a dream, hence, the final scene is a dream? Just a theory ... great movie!

His office was in Paris, not in the US . That being said, I have heard similar theories to this and it's possible. I just assumed he was waiting for him at the airport because he knew about the job.
