I'm not too big on the "everyone is biased against Ohio State" stuff, but in this particular case, the rest of the country is pretty much wrong. Gamble was held TWICE during the play, and I think defensive holding probably would have been called had the officials not decided that the ball was already in the air at the time of the infraction. As has been covered multiple times in this thread, it doesn't matter anyway. Either penalty would have had the same result. There is absolutely no denying that Sharpe held Gamble during the play...it's plain as day. The contact as the ball arrived isn't as clear cut, and had that been the only thing that occurred on the play, then Miami would probably have something to complain about. However, Sharpe impeded Gamble's progress while the ball was in flight, which means that PI technically occurred.
Even people across the country, who disregard everything I just typed because they don't think it looks like PI, still cannot deny that the game should never have reached that point. Gamble's "catch" in regulation essentially ended the game, had it been called correctly. Not to mention the fact that if they call the block in the back on Hawk during the punt return, Miami never gets a chance to kick the game-tying FG either. If the 65% (or whatever it is) of people around the nation want to complain about a missed call that had a mjor effect on the game, they should be complaining about those. Obviously OSU fans are going to say that the correct call was made, but the fact that they are OSU fans should not diminish the FACTS either. The correct call was made and the Buckeyes won the title.
