True but better than Z or anyone else that's likely available at this point. Maybe Pittman and Varnado can slow them down a little bit.

They can get by without a true center. There really aren't that many good centers in the NBA, and the one's that are they can just foul. Plus, they will probably play so fast that going small might benefit them more.

With Haslem at C. Four dudes who can score. Three above average defenders and a dude that plays hard and buys into his role at C.

Haslem has pretty decent range for a big too, he should be able to keep people from just sitting under the rim and clogging the lane for LeBron and DWade.

I'm ok with Z leaving for a ring, but how does he fit into that style of offense? Doubt this team will want to slow it down and wait for Z to get down court, and he can't really hold his own against other centers too well anymore. Footwork is lacking, understandably so though at his age.

I'm sure he will be a situational player, just like he was with the Cavs. If a team plays zone, Z is inserted to knock down a jump shot. He's another big body with experience, I'm sure Miami isn't expecting him to be the answer at C.

Most of the response to this move on here, RCF, and various comments on the articles is positive from Cavs fans. Just goes to show that it really was HOW LeBron left that pissed everyone off.

It obviously had something to do with it, but let's not pretend that anyone cared if Z resigned with the Cavs. I'm actually surprised they even offered him a contract, because he's not a part of the future. I will say that is a reflection on Gilbert that I commend.

No one hour special, no needless drawn out attention. THAT'S how you leave with class.

Agreed.

And agreed.

It's going to be quite the contrast when LeBron gets the fuck booed out of him and Z probably gets a standing O.

Z was a great guy, but I would be happy if I was a Cavs fan. Outside of loyalty, they had no reason to bring him back post-trade last season. He is in the twilight of his career and he only took minutes away from post players who should have got more minutes (Varejao, Hickson)

Probably the only team that would offer Z a contract would be the Heat. I'm a little disappointed in him...but he's gotta do it...so I don't blame him at all.

Don't think we need a new thread for it but Juwan Howard is close to signing a minimal scale deal to join the heat.

Hopefully Z has the opportunity to screw over the Heat and tank a couple of games like LEQuitter did to the Cavs.

At this point in his career, he is nothing more than a body on the bench.

Juwan Howard gave the Blazers (I think it was the Blazers) some solid minutes this past season.

Z is still awesome. Can't root for him when he's on that team but at least he has some dignity.

Yes, playing 6th fiddle (at best) on a team with 3 of the top 10 players in the league is a good show of dignity.

Then you add a shooter like Mike Miller to come off the bench? Yikes!

Very nice pick up for the Heat. He won't have a huge impact, but definitely what they needed. I wouldn't start him, but if he can give them 10-15mins a night when needed, it'll be great for them. They just need a big body down there plain and simple. Think of the Celtics with Perkins when they won, but to a lesser extent because this core is more talented. They just need bodies to be active. Who knows if Bynum will be healthy enough to really matter anyways.

Chalmers doesn't have a ton of potential and skills. However, he'd be fine as the starting PG. He can bring the ball up the court, make some open 3's, and play active defense. He's a gambler and gets burnt at times, but just like Wade, he'll improve and be a pretty solid defender.
