I dunno if this has been posted or not but according to Fanhouse the salary cap could force Miami to have to release 1 or 2 of them for cap reasons after a new hard salary cap could come into play.

I don't see any reason D Wade or Lebron couldn't take a MAJOR pay cut to stay together, if they enjoy success their first year. I mean most of their money comes from shoe contracts, endorsements, ADs, etc. anyways...why not take a cut in salary to keep the team together?

I know in the NFL the PA, would frown on taking a pay cut for any reason. I'd imagine the NBAPA would feel the same way.

Not that it would stop them from doing it of course.

I don't know enough about the negotiations and what the owners are looking for, but I would imagine there would be some sort of grandfathered clause.

I would think so as well. It will probably depend on what it really does for the sport. While owners may not like the anti-competitive angle, if it brings more TV revenue, etc...

Keep in mind, however, that Jordan's second deal was well under market value 8 yrs for $26M....He understood the marketing potential of being the best player on the best team. So, yes, if this thing is doing well from a marketing perspective, Wade/Lebron would be wise to take the paycut and make it up in endorsements.

So stupid. Owners want a cap so they can bank more. If the cap is lowered, do you really think the owners are going to lower ticket prices?

...now, Gilbert will probably have to lower prices, as his stadium will be pretty empty in comparison to the last seven years :)

As for a grandfathered clause I have heard many teams are signing guys like Joe Johnson and Amare to these contracts because there will be no grandfather clause included or they will force a strike.

You can't expect these guys to take a pay cut, they have family to feed. Think about it! How do you support a family if you are only making $5 - $8 million a year.
