Just saw on Twitter where George Steinbrenner suffered a major heart attack this morning.
Love him or hate him, he did build one of sport's greatest empires.

His health has been suspect for some time, hasn't it? Thought that was the reason he passed the day-to-day running of the club to his sons. Still a surprise to read about something this sudden.

Wow, I can't believe you guys. This cocksucker has strangled MLB since he's been an owner. He's a class A jerk, and I refuse to feel bad for him or the Yankees. I hope his death will bring about some MUCH NEEDED changes to the MLB that he has always resisted.

Can't blame George for the mess in MLB. He plays within the rules.
He donated millions towards The Ohio State University and I believe hospitials, etc throughout Ohio. Even though he owned the Yankeess, he loved Ohio.

Little known fact about George. He once was an assistant football coach at Northwestern.

He was denied in his attempt to buy the Tribe back in the day. Had to settle on the Yankees for a paltry $10 million in 1973.
He always had a huge payroll, but that was because he was genuinely obsessed with winning. There was a stretch in the last decade where the team was losing $50 million a year because of how outrageous the payroll and luxury tax got.
It is easy to hate Steinbrenner, but never ran that team as a business with concern for the bottom line the way we see out of so many owners in sports today. He said winning was just short of breathing on his list of priorities, and he certainly lived that.

RIP George......but, you might as well hand the Yankees the pennant for this year. No way they not win it all, and if they are in danger of losing it...baseball will make sure they're in the championship. Not that they need anymore help.

RIP. Great owner, wish Cleveland allowed him to buy the Tribe back in the 70's.
