By the way, Rocky was overrated.
Agreed Louis was #1, I wouldn't have Ali in my top 5.
I think there are so many that people haven't heard of like Harry Greb, Mickey Walker, Sam Langford, Max Baer,
etc....Honestly, I don't believe that any fighter that fought after about 1965, (heavyweight that is) would make a top 5 list.
Here's mine
#1 Joe Louis
#2 Jack Dempsey
#3 Harry Greb
#4 Sam Langford
#5 Jack Johnson
I also believe that if Joe Louis had never been born, our lists would look MUCH MUCH different, because Joe was so good, that the guys he beat, like Braddock, Schmeling, Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott, Jack Sharkey, were also GREAT fighters, their only crime was fighting in the same era as Joe.
Another great fighter who jumped weight classes alot, and did some time in the HW division was Archie Moore.
My opinion is Mike Tyson would fall in somewhere in the 30s, If Cus D'Amato had lived a little longer, who knows, Tyson may have cracked the top 10.
I will say this, and laugh if you want, but I think Tyson in his prime, (with D'Amato in his corner) beats Ali in his.
I have seen the Ali/Liston fight MANY times, and I agree with those who speak of the 'Phantom Punch', I don't know if Liston's life was threatened or not, but Liston beats Ali 7 of 10 times.
I loved the way Frazier fought, but he doesn't belong in the conversation either, the fighters of the 30s, 40s and 50s, would have demolished the Ali's, Fraziers, Nortons, although I do believe that a young Foreman, in his prime, was the best of that bunch.
By the way, Rocky Marciano would be in my top 8.
