Jesse Jackson has come to the defense of LeBron James -- even though no one asked him to -- and compared Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert to a "slave master."

In a harshly-worded statement, Jackson took Gilbert to task for his open letter to Cavaliers fans which slammed LeBron's decision to sign with the Miami Heat. Jackson says, "He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers. His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave."

He goes on, "LeBron is not a child, nor is he bound to play on Gilbert’s plantation and be demeaned. He has been a model citizen and has inspired the children of Akron, Cleveland, the State of Ohio and the United States."

Not sure if Cleveland fans would rush to LeBron's defense right now.

If offering a guy a 6 year deal worth $120+ million to stay is the going rate for slave labor today where can I get an application.

He has gone to some ludicrous links to draw race into a conversation in the past, but this one really takes the cake.

It is an insult to those whose ancestors were real slaves and truly suffered to compare the owner of a basketball team paying every minority on the team at least $1 million a year to a slavemaster. Not to mention comparing Lebron James to a slave, when he makes $40+ million a year for his services.

The reverend is just doing what he does, but it is particularly heinous given the circumstances and the images he is trying to invoke.

No one needs to die just because they happen to do things that seem irrational. Slow down with the hate.

Jesse tosses a race card in when there typically aren't any needed. Think back to Ray Rhodes getting fired after a season in Green Bay. Don't see Jesse coming to defend all the white coaches getting canned after one season.
