Netherlands (Holland)

VS.

Spain

Sunday July 11th, 2:30PM EST ABC

Should be a great final that will crown a first time winner.

I'm pulling for "the Oranje", I think they have just as much talent as Spain and are in better form.

Spain wins.

In terms of who I WANT to win though, I'm torn. The Dutch have always been my 2nd favorite national side. But... I dropped $20 on Spain at +400 to win the WC back a couple months ago, and an $80 payout would be awfully nice.

I guess I'm just hoping for a hell of a match to end things.

I am pulling for the Netherlands, even though Barcelona is my club team and Spain's starting 11 is half Barca

Spain for sure. 2-0

They have better players than the Dutch. Although the game was 1-0 yesterday, Spain pretty much controlled the game the entire time. They play that same way and don't fuck it up....the title is theirs.

Spain dominates this in my opinion. But Netherlands is tricky, they scrapped by Brazil and it was impressive.

Spain isn't scoring two goals. They haven't done anything this World Cup to indicate they will score more than 1 goal. If they win it will be 1-0, or 1-1- in penalty kicks.

I have to disagree with you on that one........Robben, Van Persie, Sneijder, Kuyt, Van Bomel, De Jong and on and on. Holland has just as much talent and skill as Spain does, they produce a ton of world class players every year. They have had several teams that were loaded over the years but in-fighting killed their team spirit. They don't have any internal problems on this squad.

I don't see Holland sitting back like Germany did, the Germans never impossed their will in that semifinal match until they had to, they gave too much respect and one mental lapse hurt them. The Dutch are also very good at posession and passing which should make for a very entertaining game.

Agree to disagree, but there isn't one starter that I would take on the Dutch team over a Spanish one. MAYBE Robben.

The reason Germany couldn't impose there will is because they barely had the ball, and when they did the couldn't make it happen. I just don't think the Dutch squad is as good as Germany's

Spain won't score 2? They could have had 3 yesterday if they made their chances. I could be wrong and they'll go down. I honestly thought Brazil would roll on Holland. I've been on the Spain bandwagon since the Euro qualifying so have no reason to go against them now.

I just won't the game to be ended within 120 minutes. I do not want the WC to be decided on f'n PKs.

I think the Dutch squad has a TON of talent. Hell, I picked them to be in the finals and go down to Spain. BUT, Im with Automatic...I take the Spanish counterpart in almost every position.

GK - Casillas (Spain) over Steklenberg
LB - Gio Van Bronckhorst (Dutch) over Capdevilla
RB - Ramos (Spain) over anyone Dutch
CB - Pique (Spain) over Heitinga
CB - Puyol (Spain) over Boularouz
CM - Van Bommel (Dutch) over Alonso
CM - Busquets (Spain) over De jong
Att. Mid - Xavi (Spain) over Sneijder
Wing - Iniesta (Spain) over Robben
Wing - Kuyt over Pedro (But Fabregas over Kuyt if he plays)
Forward - Villa (Spain) Van Persie

Bench Spain by a LOT over Dutch.

While the Dutch have a ton of talent, and arent really overmatched but for a few positions. They dont have more talent on the field imo.

RVP wouldn't even see the pitch if he were Spanish and I'm an Arsenal fan. While he has shown flashes of brilliance.....he's not in the same league as the Spanish forwards.

I never said they have more talent but I feel they have just as much. I'll take the Dutch midfield over any other side in the world.......at the moment.

I also think Holland learned a great deal from the Spain/Germany match. They need to impose their will on a much smaller team, it's the final and the Dutch have nothing to leave behind by worrying about hard tackling football and fouls, something I thought Germany didn't do. I also feel they will go forward, they're just as technically sound as Spain and can string passes all the way down the field as Spain does.

Sorry, I thought you said they were better. I think they are just behind. I thought they had the 3rd most talent behind Spain and Brazil (although I thought they were even with Brazi)

It will be interesting to see what the Dutch do. I think they MUST play their game....but no team has really been able to do that because of the possession that Spain keeps. Teams have the ball for such a short period of time, its tough to get it going (also cause Spain pushes up so far, a lot of times 8 players inside the half to win the ball back). If the Dutch can keep possession close, they have a chance I think. I just dont think they are any different from other sides. I dont think a team in the world can play how they want versus Spain because they just dont ever have the ball.

rooting for Spain...
their ball control and passing game is fascinating to watch.

expecting a great final, though.

Sneijder has a great nose for the ball, and I would throw him in the discussion comparing the Dutch to the top Spanish mids; but otherwise, Spain looks like the clearly better side, imo.
Robben has only a few basic moves (go to the right corner, then left foot it running back across the pitch) and I don't see him being a factor against Spain.
VP hasn't found his stride in this WC.

All this talk about how Spain possesses the ball is fine because they do but again, Germany allowed that to happen, they never used their size and power to physically take the ball away and go forward, although, they did a great job of keeping Spain out on the wings, nothing developed in the middle of the field. Holland (sorry, they're still Holland to me) won't make that mistake, I think they will go all out for every 50/50 ball, even if it means fouling someone. The one thing I've noticed is Spain doesn't like to be physically challenged, over the course of 90 minutes that type of play will take it's affect. Then again, you miss and you can easily be burned but IMO, that's the only way to beat Spain.

Good read on how the Dutch players will combat Spains passing attack:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/id/807475/ce/uk/?cc=5901&ver=global

Looks like Holland will try to out muscle Spain and try to disrupt that Spanish attack in their end, which IMO is a very good tactic against a very small team.
