Lake overall will be very average, but as far as the SLL goes they will be competing for 2nd place. Something tells me this year will be much like last year for Lake. Beating everyone they should, losing to Northwood, close game with Eastwood for 2nd, and it will get personal versus Genoa, but will be one-sided. I'm not being a homer when I say this, but Genoa is far ahead of the rest of the SLL right now. Losing many starters or not they have so much experience and depth to cover for it. My curious question is can Genoa make it 4 consecutive years with 4 different 1st team all-ohio RBs?

I know a 7 on 7 is not a good measuring stick but if it was, I believe Northwood will be pretty good this year.

Northwood has every skill position player returning this year. Lake will definately have their hands full week 2, and Swanton will not help them too much in preparation.

You are correct, bwcomet89 concerning Otsego and their scheduling history. They did schedule the teams you are suggesting and won a lot more often than not, but they were also one of the top football programs in NW Ohio for quite some time and could benefit two ways from those games. First they could win. Second, they could get a bundle of computer points each time they did. Otsego has dropped back to an average team at best right now and you need wins to encourage your team. the schedule isn't quite as challenging now but Otsego is on their way back to respectability and their schedule will reflect the improvement. To play a clearly superior opponent and run the risk of losing players when you can't win and get a single computer point doesn't make any sense to me. It doesn't really matter if you even play a "competitive" game with whoever the opponent may be. We are mentioning De Sales like it is a real possibility that it will be a good game. In my humble opinion it won't be and the risks versus the gain doesn't compute very well in my mind. I'm for playing good competition but this won't be good. It will be a long night.

However they did get the win's and that is something positive to build on.
I don't think anyone will argue Lake beat a bunch of good teams to go 7-3 last year because everyone knows the SLL is a very down league right now as is the SBC I believe. I said I think they could go 7-3 or 8-2 because I think they are capable of beating Otsego, Elmwood, Gibsonburg, Woodmore, Swanton, and possible Eastwood, they wont beat Genoa or Northwood. (Not sure who they face in there other two non-league games) Heck if they go 8-2 they have an outside chance at making the playoffs and if they some how pull off wins against Genoa and/or Northwood I think they have a really good chance.. but I think we are all getting ahead of ourselves and like I said earlier lets see how everyone does in their scrimmages and then we can do more of this type of talk.

Lake's 2010 Schedule:
8/27/2010 SWANTON (SWANTON)
9/3/2010 NORTHWOOD (NORTHWOOD)
9/10/2010 @ ROSSFORD (ROSSFORD)
9/17/2010 GIBSONBURG (GIBSONBURG)
9/24/2010 @ OTSEGO (TONTOGANY)
10/1/2010 WOODMORE (Elmore)
10/8/2010 EASTWOOD (PEMBERVILLE)
10/15/2010 @ GENOA AREA (GENOA)
10/22/2010 ELMWOOD (BLOOMDALE)
10/29/2010 @ ALLEN EAST (Harrod)
They could easily go 7-3 this year due to a weak OCC schedule and the SLL being pretty top heavy. Allen East may cause some trouble as they only beat them 10-6 last season and they have to travel to Harrod this year. Northwood will be a tough task, and Eastwood and Genoa back to back will be rough as well. Eastwood's O will run through Connor, so if you can stop him you can stop Eastwood, but until a lake fan comes on here and tells me why Lake has a shot at beating Genoa after losing 49-0 last year and amassing only 33 yards of total offense, I cannot see why they have a shot this year.

I don't put much stock in scrimmages and I don't think too many coaches go into them trying to be scrimmage champion of NW Ohio. if Lake played Huron tough in a scrimmage, I suppose that's good, but it's really hard to say what the Huron staff was looking at and what the Lake staff was trying to do. I do think though, that this Lake bunch is going to be very competitive, first because they have some nice players to start with and second, because I believe that when a talented team has emotion going for them, as long as they don't get caught up in it, I think it can be good for a key win or two. If Northwood rolls the Fjyers, then perhaps I have over-estimated the season Lake will have. We shall see. I believe the appropriate quote here would be "Isn't that why they play the game?"

Good post Swamp Fox. It was also said that Huron only played their starters one series of downs or something too. Who knows and who really cares. The kids get to hit someone with a different colored jersey amd hone their skills. Any team can beat any other team on any Friday.
This is strictly hearsay but word is Genoa and Eastwood did NOT do very well in their scrimmages.

Genoa scrimmaged Archbold on Friday, however I didn't go to it so I have no clue how they looked. Next friday they scrimmage Swanton. I have been told it takes time for Genoa's line to get the swing of things so if they didn't look too good I'm not all that suprised. Nor am I worried.

Genoa had 6 touchdowns and Archbold had 5. I heard the Comets ran the ball well but also were lit up pretty good thru the air but that is one of the spots Genoa is going to have to really work on with the loss of Traver and Wendt back there but I believe they'll be ready in time for playoffs

bw-personally I dont see any back from Genoa getting huge accolades this year. I think it will be more of a pick your poison. In terms of depth hands down Genoa is head and shoulders above the SLL. But if you ask me in terms of athletes I dont see Lake being that far behind. A lot of that has to do with Lake having IMO the best athlete in the league in Josh Tantari.
Anyone have an update on Woodmore, Gibsonburg, Otsego or Elmwood. Woodmore has probably the top QB in the league but who will catch it for him. Who is next in line to be the do everything QB for Elmwood. Will G-burg and Otsego possibly provide some second level points for the rest of the league?

I agree. Genoa has a lot of good running backs, but none imo as talented as Vicars, Skilliter, Hilly, or Wendt for that matter. However, I didn't see Skilliter do what he did his senior year coming, so I'm ready and willing to be suprised. I did hear that Cuevas is Genoa's fullback which means he will get plenty of carries, but Genoa's stable is as plentiful as ever with backs so his carries will be limited. As far as best athlete in the SLL, I am split between Tantari, Sandwisch, Connor, and Genoa's stud. Whoever that will be. I say Genoa's stud because they have a lot of talented kids on this year's team, but I don't know if they have the number one most talented. The determining factor I think will be whoever wins the league, their man will be POY. Put Connor on any SLL team and he's their star. He's that good, but from what I have heard from Eastwood fans, there aren't many guys that can block for him. I read on the enemy site that Elmwood's QB looked very good in their first scrimmage so it may be worth following Royal football again. This is all hopeful news because I hope to see the last year of the SLL be more competitive, going out with a bang so to speak.lhs2ndbase;454282 wrote:bw-personally I dont see any back from Genoa getting huge accolades this year. Idk how someone from Genoa doesn't win it. That'd be like not giving someone from Boise State the WAC POY. I think Dufendock has a great shot at itbirddog23;454427 wrote:early POY canidates??

Dufe, Murphy, Cueves, Sibby, Pickard... all great running backs who could win POY which is why Genoa's stud is a pretty good way of putting it.

If someone starts the first thread and lists the games with a couple of other big games from NWO for week 1 I will compile the results and then take over from there. I just don't have the schedule in front of me right now and won't til much later tonight.

I started a pick em thread. any suggestions or changes you want, let me know. Just kind of threw it together real quick like due to time constraints.
