JaMarcus Russell(notes), recently released free-agent quarterback and one of the biggest draft busts of all time, was arrested Monday afternoon for possession of a controlled substance.
The substance? Codeine syrup, according to Daniela Werner of al.com.
Codeine syrup, also known as purple drank, lean, or sizzurp, typically contains codeine and promethazine, ingredients found in prescription cough syrup. ESPN's "Outside the Lines" just did a feature on the beverage. It's said to make those who abuse it feel drowsy, weak and in an "altered level of consciousness."

Fuck that stuff.

Codeine syrup is for people who are too much of a pussy to do pills. Plain and simple.

I don't condone either of them, but I thought Russel would have been doing something other than sizzurp.

Where did he get it? I use it, too, but for me it is just another prescription. Surely they don't sell it on the street.

Generally two different things. Robotripping high comes from the ingredient dextromethorphan found in some cough suppresants and has dissociative type effects. Promethazine-codeine (purple drank) is a mild opiate high resulting in sedation, relaxation, and a general sense of well being. Since it sounds like you have robotripped before you can probably agree that "sedation, relaxation, and a general sense of well being" do not come with the experience.

Shady doctors, stolen prescription pads, and the like. It's trafficked in some areas just like marijuana and cocaine.

Codeine syrup is big in the south (Texas, Georgia, etc).

JaMarcus Russell should have just done cocaine instead.
