so the gf and i had been talking about buying a camper trailer, then I got to thinking, wait, I own a bunch of land, why not just build a cabin...

I am thinking of going with this one

They say you can build it for under $4k.

Anyone ever done something like this, or know someone who did?

lol

for real though, all we would do is put a wood burning stove in it, some cheap furniture and some oil lamps. We love going primitive camping, but the set up and tear down time takes up too much time to go for just a night.

You can probably buy a set of Lincoln Logs and build one for fairly cheap.

That seems too cheap, idk.

Maybe that's just for the building itself. You still have to get permits and furnish it.

no plumbing, no electric, no hvac, the rest of the permits are cheap. i would build it myself with the help of family and friends. could probably furnish it for under $1000. I already have doors and windows that were brand new in a house my parents tore down in 1996 that have been in storage, that cuts down about $1000 in the budget. Don't have to cut in a driveway or anything. Insulation would run about $500 or so.

I live in FL but I know some amish in OH that would work for cash $$$ and would help with the price

plus it is on my hunting land, and it would make deer hunting SOOOO much more comfortable. I hate sleeping in a tent in the fall.

thanks, but i have plenty family and friends skilled in carpentry. I'd need help probably doing the siding and interior walls. I want to do all wood, like floor, walls and ceiling on the interior.

Even so, you could still probably get one built for you for fairly cheap.

The economy being crap and all, I'm sure the prices are fairly competitive.

The prices are very competitive right now, however, not as cheap as doing it yourself.

How is that going to help you?

my dad and grandpa have a combined like 70 years building experience, from being a framer, to a finish carpenter, to a foreman to a developer. Pretty sure we can figure it out ;)

Dad and I built one @ 18 years ago, green hemlock, board and batten style, 12x16, one room, 8x16 porch. Came in a little over 5k.
