Man oh man. I had to give the tv up about a half hour ago and it was 1-0 (I've got the game recording). Now it is 10-0? Haha.

THE Reds are not missing those pitches....BOOM

Votto killed that ball...again

Votto and ROlen Top 5 MVP candidates for NL???? Me thinks so.

And unfortunately they won't even sniff the award because the media loves names, not players.

Yes, Kudos to Dusty for having a pitcher ready to get Arroyo out right away and getting Phillips and Rolen out right away. Oft times he gets them out, but an inning or two later than he should.

it's pivital for the Reds success to rest Phillips' hamstring and Rolen's whole body

Votto will be up there if he continues, moreso than Rolen imo. I think both are top 5 right now though.

I was doing a bit of work at the office. I left at 1-0 after the first two Reds were walked to open the inning. Went to the grocery store, came home, put everything away and checked the score. It was 12-0. HOLY MOTHER OF IMPLOSIONS!!!! And Psycho-Z wasn't even around to get shit started!

Top 5?????

Who is there? Votto, Rolen, Pujols, Jimenez, Wright, Prado.....are there any other candidates for the top 5? Andre Ethier...missed a lot which hurts some of his stats

The Cubs pitching had quite the meltdown today. Them walking batters with the bases loaded gave me flashbacks to the Reds teams of old (old = last 2-3 years). There is nothing more frustrating than a pitcher walking guys with the bases loaded

I agree. I can't figure out why Dusty doesn't try to give Cabrera more time off, especially with his ankle problem and having a very defensively capable Janish to put in.

*I love Adam Dunn
*Adam Dunn strikes out too damn much.
*Players like Drew Stubbs who can beat out just about anything MUST be good contact hitters to be worth their while.....right now he is not.

You are right on target with this. The situation and the type of hitter/runner you are determine how hurtful Ks are. Do you want a hitter/runner like Adam Dunn to hit more ground balls with runners on first and less than 2 outs?

Missed the last 5 innings, WOW. Ironman I was joking about the K's or wins thing, of course I'd take the K's with the wins. Sarcasm fail on my part.

Looks like this game was a prime example of how this offense is unstoppable if they don't K. 1 run and 9k's thru 6.1, 11 runs and 1k the rest of the game. Obviously the quality of the pitching was a huge dropoff after Dempster.

Obviously if they are scoring runs they aren't striking out or getting out period. Not saying I love the strike out or prefer the strike out over other outs. I'm not saying that at all. I am just saying that I really don't get anymore upset about a K than I would a flyout

1) A strikeout is not just another out, that bugs me when people say that. Fielders' choice, sac flies, errors, those all can happen, but not if you strikeout. Even if it only happens once out of every 50 times, it helps the team.

2) Stubbs is really struggling at the plate, I'd like to see Heisey get a few more starts in CF to see if he can get hot with some more regular playing time. I just don't see much improvement out of Stubbs at the plate. He is young, he will get better....but if Heisey is better at the plate right now, I think we need to let him see the field a bit more than he has.

3) Votto is really becoming a hitter that pitchers are starting to fear. His OBP is only slightly behind Pujols, he has walked 46 times this year already. He walked 17 times in June, more than double anyone else on the team. He now leads the league in slugging, right ahead of Scotty Rolen.

4) Jay Bruce is really starting to become the hitter we all (or at least I) expected him to be. He is much more patient at the plate (35 BBs this year) and his average keeps climbing.

5) Bronson owns the Cubs.

6) The Reds are "more interested than they're leading on" in Cliff Lee, according to Jayson Stark: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/stark-on-wigginton-lopez-atkins-lee.html

In the long term Stubbs will be fine. I love the guy's skill set. He has pop and speed. However today and the past few games he has looked overwhelmed at times. I do agree that it is time to get Heisey some more ABs

Yeah I'm not saying bench Stubbs, but hey....Heisey has shown power in just his few pinch hits, I wanna know what he can do with some more regularity. Maybe a little competition and splitting some time will light a fire under's Stubbs and make him a bit more patient at the plate.
