Reds strand two. Castro waited back on a Stubbs grounder and Stubbs ran it out. Do these guys not watch other games? You ought to know by now you can't do that on Stubbs. Got lucky that Arroyo was on deck

So many K's. If this team without offensive changes makes the postseason they could set all kinds of records for strikeouts.

Watching that play Castro made on Stubbs......it is truely unbelievable that he ACTUALLY beat that out. I watched that play thousands of times and it had the exact same timing of a play that gets the runner by a step and it kinda close on a very fast runner......I just can't believe he beat that out. There may be 1 or 2 other players who beat that out.....but I'm not sure.

THey show the pitch speed every time but what I'd like to see is the time from home plate to 1st on hit balls. I went back and timed it 3 different times and once Stubbs began running to the time he reached 1st base it was right at 3.5 seconds (which is insane) and from the moment the ball touched the bat to 1st base....3.98 seconds.



They used to say it took Rickey Henderson 3.0 seconds when stealing 2nd from his leadoff position......but home to 1st he was right at 3.4-3.5

You serious Clark? haha I love when people ignore a whole season's worth of stats and want to focus on one game.

The Reds are: (National League rankings)
#1 in batting average
#2 in OBP
#4 in stolen bases
#1 in total bases
#1 in RBIs
#3 in Home runs

So yeah... their offense is pretty good this year

I can't believe he beat it out either, but still. Castro has to know you gotta charge the ball on Stubbs. You can't sit back and wait on it.

Where did I say the offense is not good? It's very good.

They have to be one of the worst "good" teams when it comes to strking out, it's the whole season. I'm not looking it up but if you want to be stat guy go ahead.

The Reds have also had one of the easiest schedules so far and most home games, leading to the inflated offensive numbers. That high of an average with that many K's means they have a high BABIP and that should level out as well.

Check out the Halladay game, great offense, 10 Ks in 8 innings. You can have both, they aren't mutually exclusive.

I like when we had Jeremy Affeldt and once he began to struggle we would call him Jeremy Aflack becasue he was going to give the opponent some insurance runs.

really? absolutely....why?

Going 73-89 would mean they are going to be miserable to watch the rest of the way...if they were to be in the playoff setting dubious records it would mean they would be enjoyable to watch as they are obviously winning and since many of us watch the Reds for 15-18 hrs a week.....I'd like to have another 13 weeks of the Reds being exciting to watch.


AND once they made the playoffs breaking playoff records doesn't mean they wouldn't win. They could fan 18 times to Atlanta in games 1 and 3 and fan about 8 times in games 2 and 4 and 5 and likely set a strikeout record and still win the series. OR maybe they have 2 innings where they strike out 4 times and set a record...that would hardly decide any series. Maybe they have Eric Gregg-like ump who owns the tv and drills both teams equally.


Regardless...being cruddy on offense in the playoffs guarantees 13 more weeks of good Reds baseball......73-89....well I've been there and done that.....no thanks




ALL of this being said I agree with you on their strikeouts rising and how they have played an easy schedule thus far and much at home. They do need to cutback on the strikeouts...I was just looking at it in the big picture of how you put it about setting strikeout records in the playoffs.

I honestly don't know why people get their panties in such a bind over strike outs. To me a strike out is just another out. The other statistics speak for themselves IMO.

Jay Bruce is living well on his baserunning......I would've called him for interference on the breaking up the DP yesterday. We're still doing good on the overall breaks.

jordo....you know it's coming....Stubbs just showed where a strikeout is very very bad.........and Stubbs did it again....off of a 2-0 count nonetheless....with the pitcher on deck


Often times the strikeout is just another out....and on a 9 or 10 pitch at bat sometimes even a good at bat ends in a K........

Fortunately, Dempster pitching to Arroyo just picked up Stubbs....now Phillips needs to knock one down the RF line and not hit a 2 hopper inning ending DP
