^^^^ fair enough, I will agree that not all OSU fans are like that, just a few really really really bad ones.

That happens with every team. Sleeper though is extra special...in more ways than one.

Sleeper actually makes an interesting point here, and one that I think a lot of ND fans need to hear. ND fans love to talk about history, the great history and legacy of the program (fans of any major program with a great history like Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Alabama, etc. do this, not just ND). Because of the history and tradition of the school most fans think that every top prospect in the country should want to come to Notre Dame simply because they are ND, and because of what they have been and what they have meant for college football. The truth of the matter is that outside of the Midwest, most high school football players don't know this great history and tradition, all they know of Notre Dame is what they have seen in their lifetime. The history doesn't matter to them, only what they have seen does. As far as they are concerned, when it comes to picking where they are going to play college football, is their own experience. To them, college football didn't exist before they started watching. As fans we know about all of the wins, national titles, and Heisman Trophies, but a 17 or 18 year old kid in California or Texas who is being recruited only knows losing seasons, bowl losses, blowouts at the hands of USC, and a seemingly endless coaching carousel. To them, it's only the recent history that matters.

Which is why I am happy we have someone who is outgoing and proud of the heritage he's got on his shoulders like Kelly. Weis wanted to brag about seeing Tom Brady's dick in the lockeroom. Kelly wants to convince kids that if they come to ND and restore that tradition they can brag about that instead.

You make it sound like ND hasn't gotten good recruting classes or blue chip recruits recently - but they have. Why do these kids continue to choose/consider ND to play football then if the reasons you specified were not somewhat true? Because I agree with the part that kids wouldn't choose a school who gets blown out by USC and has lost countless bowl games in a row.

Funny thing about this post is that academics aside... there is no way Notre Dame would ever join the Ivy League. They would be neutering their sports program if they did that. No athletic scholarships would destroy any chance Notre Dame has of becoming an elite football school again.

Yeah, ND isn't recruting nation wide any more.......all their players come from the mid-west.:rolleyes:

That mentality was flushed down the toilet when Willingham was fired, he tought that way and didn't work hard on recruiting, thus setting the program back. For all of Charlie Weis' flaws, the one thing he did very well was recruit, he dispelled the myth that ND couldn't land the blue chipper anymore, Kelly seems to be doing well in recruting too.

..................AND before some numb nut like ccrunner posts that ND's recruiting rankings are inflated, A LOT of these recruits had multiple offers from big time programs like Florida and USC. Hard to be overrated if schools like that are also offering you a scholarship.

The million dollar question is, can Brian Kelly do what Weis could not and develop these players in to a consistent, winning football "team"? I'm optimistic but I have to see it first hand on the field.

Where have you seen/heard that "most" ND fans think that every top recruit should wan to come to ND? I don't think they believe that, if they do they are delusional. ND in fact has recruited pretty well the last 5-6 years. I think they have been in the top 25 every one of those years, and even had a few top 10 classes. They haven't recruited at an elite level, but they have recruited well enough to perform much better on the field than they did. That is probably the biggest reason they have a new coach this season.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but...you don't have a fucking clue what matters to them. None of us do. You may want to say that a few years after Jimmy Clausen (#1 overall recruit, out of California) and Manti T'eo (#1 overall recruit, out of Hawai'i) have left the campus.

ND gets great recruiting classes, but can't win a bowl game or beat anyone worth a damn.

Great recruiting classes are relevant because when a coach worth his salt comes along he'll inherit a talented program. Hopefully that's Brian Kelly.

Steve Spurrier mentioned this, today, when he took over Florida in 1990.

I thought the Ivy League didnt allow teams to play in bowl games and thats why Harvard didnt get to go to a bowl game a few years back.
