"NEW YORK (AP) — Funding for startups fell 12 percent in the April-June period as venture capitalistspoured less money into fewer deals than a year earlier.A report due out Friday says startup investments slipped to $7 billion in the second quarter, down from $8 billion. The companies getting funded were mainly in the industrial, energy, technology and media sectors.
There were 898 deals completed during the quarter, down 15 percent from 1,057 a year earlier.
The MoneyTree study was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association based on data from Thomson Reuters.
Compared with the first quarter, both the amount of VC money and the number of deals increased."

Long-term optimism about the economy has fallen to the lowest level ever measured by Rasmussen Reports. Just 40% expect the economy to be stronger in five years. That’s down from 46% a year ago, 50% two years ago and 58% three years ago. Most believe the housing market will take more than three years to recover.

And those facts right there explain weak demand for businesses. For those who keep saying you can't have a recovery without consumer spending, well take a look at those numbers. Obama has attended 195 fundraisers in 16.5 months. GWB in hi re-election bid did 86 over 14 months.
Astonishing. Obama has never stopped campaigning since being elected, really. That, and reading from a teleprompter, appears to be the only thing he is good at. How can anyone vote for this clown again?

This will be the new normal for any sitting president from here on out.Obama has attended 195 fundraisers in 16.5 months. GWB in hi re-election bid did 86 over 14 months.
Had Bush been dealing with the landscape that Citizen's United provides as far as the money needed to run an effective campaign, he would have been fundraising around the clock as well.
Comparing running for president in 2012 to 2004 is about as helpful as comparing an Ipad to an Apple IIe. It's a totally different world.
The Citizens United decision has fundamentally changed the money it takes to run for president, and as such it will require all sitting Presidents from here on out to spend more time raising money and less time governing. It is just how the game is set up now.

Why is pre-Citizens United considered the status quo, when McCain-Feingold wasn't enacted until 2002? Limits on independent expenditures were in place way before McCain-Feingold. There's been a ban on "independent" spending by Unions and Corporations since the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947. Remember, the Taft-Hartley act was in principle an anti-union bill and since unions were powerful back then, independent expenditures by unions would have been a threat so a deal that led to no independent spending by corporate treasuries or union treasuries was put in place. Wouldn't Citizen's United make it easier to raise money, implying even less events needed? That's quite the spin there. What is clear is Obama will devote 100% of his time - more, if necessary - to winning re-election. The hasn't really EVER done the job, hasn't ever really stopped campaigning. I'll never buy a GM made product the rest of my life. They've built largely CRAP machines since the late 70's anyway. No wonder the taxpayer had to bail out the incompetent boobs managing the business and also prop-up the "too big to fail UAW" thugs.

I'm LMAO at CNN right now....Papa John's today said Obamakare would cost them 11-14 cents/per pizza. CNN then has an "analyst" (read: not really an analyst) proceed to dissect this number. Mind you, he admits to not knowing how they calculated their number, or even key variables such as how many part-time employees, etc. This does not prevent him from going on to conclude that "the claim is false".
This is the kind of garbage people rail on Fox for all the time. But, to be honest, Fox is bad but it's better than CNN and MSNBC.
