I grill quite a bit. One of the things I grill regularly is whole or split chicken. When I take it off the grill to dice it up for the family, I got in the habit of throwing the dogs some scraps. Now they go ape shit when I grill it. Its like crack cocaine to them. They know what it is when I am preparing it. They pace around the grill while I am cooking it.

When I take it off the grill they go nuts. One of the dogs, barely a foot tall, leaps up and down by the kitchen counter. Her head constantly bobbing up and down above the counter while I cut up the meat. I toss a scrap and throw into the air and with laser like precision one of the dogs leaps up and snatches it right out of the air. Its to the point now that if I say the word chicken the dogs instantly go nuts.

I know some people think it is a bad thing to do, but I have no problem with it. The "hounds", as my family jokingly refers to the dogs, definitely love it.

No human food... except for what my 4 year old daughter deposits on the floor. He gets lucky every once in a while.

We do - purely as a treat for the pack (we have four dogs - a Labrador, a Cavalier King Charles, a Cockalier, and a chihuahua-based mutt that looks like the First Dog On Earth). They get treated after I finish preparing dinner for cooking or after we finish eating - they're not allowed in kitchen while either activity is taking place (after a couple of spills caused by stepping on a spaniel).

They've been trained to stay in the family room when I'm prepping or cooking food as well as when we're eating the magic word is the command "Hoover!".

I throw the dogs some scraps, and just like with your dogs it has become a ritual. They look forward to it, and it seems harmless so I let them enjoy a treat whenever I am in the kitchen.

I don't give my dogs much more than dog food. I still haven't gotten over my husky stealing my ham off the counter after I cooked it low and slow for 15+ hours

My dogs get everything I don't eat. Why waste something they will love?

We feed ours scraps. One of the best things to do for your dog if he/she is sick and not eating is to boil a piece of chicken, shred it up and mix it with plain rice. Something about it is easy on the dogs stomach and is rich in the minerals they need.

When we grill steaks, we can't resist not giving the dogs the scraps. How would you like it if someone grilled a nice big 'ol steak right in front of you and didn't give you any? lol There are some things we do not give them though... it will give them bad gas.

This. And doggie gas is the worst.

There is just no way you can say no to this little guy when he sits and does not beg for it... He just stares at me with those eyes... Can't help it, gotta share.

I thought all dogs passed away at some point. Did she croak prematurely?

We'll give our dog little pieces of food every once in a while. Not enough that they expect it.

This is why I prefer cats. :p They don't beg like starving homeless people when you're cooking.

majorspark, my dog was about the same when I baked a pizza. I just gave him the crust. He loved it. I could ask him if he wanted 'pizza crust' and he barked his loudest. He always caught it, if I lobbed it or threw like a dart. It was by far his favorite treat. I'd leave him at my parents house when I went to other tracks for a week or two and mom made him scrambled eggs for breakfast.

You have got to be kidding...there is no denying a cat when they are hungry and want to be fed.

I rarely do anymore. I read dogs on a restricted calorie diet live longer so I've been really strict with the diet the vet suggested. But every once in a while it's okay to cheat.

I don't have any dogs but I have a shitload of cats and they don't beg, they sneak attack. When we are eating, one will climb up on the arm of the chair and divert your attention while the other snags your food off the plate. Our oldest orange cat has gotten to the point where he can open the free standing broiler by grabbing the handle with his paw and snagging a piece of pizza. I've seen our youngest kitten (the only cat who isn't fixed so she's probably gonna stay small) run through the house with pieces of steak and pizza in her mouth that were 3/4th's her size.

My dog doesn't like people food, believe it or not.
Now my cat loves spaghetti sauce so, when I'm done eating I'll scrape some of the sauce left on my plate into her dish (if there's any left after sopping it up with garlic bread). She absolutely loves it.
