I dunno if anyone has been watching this season but, it is the greatest season ever. There have been amazing storylines and tragic moments. The season has been leading to one of the most tragic events ever on the show the death of Capt. Phil Harris. Well the last two episodes have been leading up to his stroke and eventual death. Watching his son Jake getting caught stealing his pain medicaion and then admiting he was an addict was hard to watch. Then you see Phil tell him he loves him and he has to get help and he will go to meetings with him to help him get better. Only before they can go to these meeting Phil passes away. At the same time the other Jake on the northwesterns's dad is missing. They have located his truck but he is still missing. As someone who lost their father in the past year all I can say is I feel for the sons and shed a tear over a tv show for the first time in a long time. I hope jake can recover and the Cornelia Marie can continue on. I hope everyone watches this show and sees the love these people share for their famiy.

I think Phil knew Jake had troubles and was trying to get him to admit it.

Love this show. The rivalry between the wizard and time bandit was a good story this season too.

Haven't missed an episode since the series began. I suspected Jake was f'd up for awhile, confirmed last week when he fell in the hold. Phil was a good dude, lifetime of hard living finally caught up to him.

I can't stand Cap'n Kieth. Complete bag-o-douche.

Last night's episode got very real. Jake Harris admitting he was an addict (suspected that was the case for a while), Jake (NW) finding out about his dad's disappearance, and the Hillstrand brothers discussing retirement and who will take over the boat when they do. Then to top it all off, we see Phil's stoke at the end of the show. It was like every major event all happening at once. This is just another case where real life ends up being far more dramatic than anything you could write.

How do you think Jake felt after telling his father he's and addict and then Phil has a stroke? Man, that's hard. In his mind, he's going..."damn, I really messed up telling my Dad about my addiction. It gave him a stroke! Shit." Plus, you guys are talking about how you knew about Jake...how? I never saw anything to indicate that. Eh, I guess it doesn't matter. This season has been friggin' awesome for sure!

I don't think anyone was for sure he was addicted to pills, but based on the way Jake's behavior bounces around you can tell something was up. Sometimes he's quiet and works hard, other times he gets lazy, other times he gets mouthy, he was very random. Probably had a lot to do on whether he had knocked his ass out with some drugs or if he was strung out from not having them.

Of course, hindsight is 20/20 too.

I said from Phil's reaction, it seemed to me that he knew and was trying to get Jake to fess up by telling him that he was disowning him. He used the words "thief" and "liar". I can understand "thief", but the liar made no sense in the context, he then told him he was so full of shit his eyes were brown. He emotions changed immediately after Jake fessed up, he went from disowning to telling him he would go to meetings with him.

This is as real as reality TV gets....

If Discovery Channel canceled this show tomorrow, ALL of these guys would be back doing what they do in a heartbeat. Its there life, you have to be born and raised right in order to do what they deal with.

I haven't missed a week since I started watching it in season 2. I know somebody that moved to Alaska to work on a fishin boat. There are a lot of addicts out there. These guys go days without sleep when the fishing is good and many rely on drugs to get them through it. My friend did a lot of drugs out there.

His mood always seemed way up or way down, he has addict eyes, he chain smokes worse than anyone on the show, which shows he has an addictive personality, and if you watched the previous episode he was super spacey and it looked like he was either VERY high or beginning to go through withdraw. I didn't know that he was an addict, but it just didn't surprise me to find out that he was.

Tonight's after the catch is the Wizard. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight with the Marie and if Jake takes the boat back out. I have read that many fisherman are addicted to crystal meth because it keeps them going for the long hours.

i know a lot of rig hands that said back in the 80's the company man (i.e. me) would bring crystal meth to the rig and hand it out so people could make it through the day. now we shut down so much the rig hands can take like 2 hrs worth of naps every other day.

Not to spoil it, but since it is readily available Discovery mentioned in their episode notes that he passes on in the July 13 episode. Episodes continue through the 27th.

I rarely read their notes, so I didn't know. Didn't spoil much though, we all know what ends up happening.
