*Not sure where this should be posted so please put where needs to be.

I am a firm believer that my tax dollars should in no way help any kid or parent who sends their kid to private school. Why is my tax dollars being used to bus private school kids to the front doors of their school? The parents of private school kids choose to send their kids to private school and should find a way to get them there without using my money. Can't get them there then send the kids to public school like my kids.

I hope this practice stops.

This happens in Bellaire. The Bellaire St.Johns kids get on the regular (public) school buses and go to school that way.
I've never cared enough about it to wonder all that much.

Maybe it's not your tax dollars being used. Maybe it's the tax dollars of the parents that are sending their kids to the private school.

If a person raises their family in a particular community and sends their kids to a private school they will contribute much more tax dollars to the public school system than they consume through transportation from the school system.

Or maybe the private school compensates the public school system to use their buses.

They don't.

State law requires the local school system to transport all students within a certain distance no matter the school they attend.

I don't mind it as long as the non-public school pays at least their fair share of the costs. It's far more efficient to pool resources, coordinate routes and share overhead costs - and it save everyone money.

A significant part of our school funding costs here in Ohio is caused by the fact that each local school district has to construct and maintain its own infrastructure. Take a look at Scioto County (not to pick on them in particular) - 11 public high schools, 10 or 11 districts (is Sciotoville still part of Portsmouth City?), 80,000 residents. We have just about the same number of residents here in the Hilliard City SD - with one set of administrators (which, many will be quick to tell you, are too numerous :) ) It isn't a even comparison, but it does illustrate the problem.

I don't see what the difference is. You're okay with paying to bus public school kids around (which you don't except for if you're in that district) but private school kids can fuck off? It spends the same amount of your tax dollars either way.
