I'm chuckling at some of the IPhone owners getting excited over being able to create folders for apps with the latest OS. I mean, it's a valuable feature....You just think they wouldn't have had to wait 3+ years for it.hoops23;397134 wrote:I've shown them just about everything I myself know so far lol..
My one buddy is now getting into Android himself, after 4 years of Blackberry.

Yeah, I found that hilarious as well. I've been making folders on my Android phone since I got it.
BTW, I thought this video (from Mac Life, nonetheless) was pretty hilarious.

Droid 2- Boo! arrows instead of pad
Droid X- Boo! I prefer a slider
I'll stick with original Droid. I just want my 2.2 upgrade, dammit.

There was a list of phones expected to get the 2.2 update
found it:
http://www.androidcentral.com/officially-unofficial-android-22-upgrade-list
The HTC Hero is on the "iffy" line, but wasn't mentioned in the article.
The Samsung Moment is on the "Not happening" line.

So they officially announced the X today.

What is interesting to me since all the specs were basically known:
"all Verizon customers with upgrade dates in 2010 will be pulled up so they're eligible for the Droid X as soon as it's available."

Well, Google released official source code for 2.2 today to the phone makers and carriers....Sounding like August for stock Droid users....I'll have it in a week, and already running a stable version with some very, very minor bugs now
X looks like a pretty nice device, but I'll likely be upgrading a year early to the Droid Pro at the end of the year. That's rumored to be an absolute beast, can't wait to see solid specs on it.
The other thing I thought was interesting is talk time on the X is advertised as up to 8 hours....I believe Droid is 4-5 hours, so it seems like the X has a significantly better battery capacity (although I think an extended battery is out for Droid now).

Pretty sweet. I'm glad the slide out keyboard is gone. I'm amazed and disappointed at the same time though. I just got my Droid in April, but it'll be Nov '11 before I can upgrade. No telling what they'll have out by then, but I'll be looking forward to something great from Verizon running on Android. Until then, I'm just waiting on the upgrade to Froyo.

Dolphin Browser HD is the BEST browser for a mobile phone I've ever used.
Better than Safari, better than Opera Mini and better than any other stock browser.

All Android phones have access to the Android market, which has well over 50,000 apps and a ton added daily.
In fact, that 50,000 may be a VERY low estimate.
Apps won't be a problem. I used my iPod Touch a lot while I had my Blackberry, but since getting my HTC Hero, I've given my iPod Touch to my girlfriend. All the apps I used frequently are on the Android Market.

Wow, it sure used to be a lot easier to pick out a phone. Not so long ago all phones did basically the same things and it mostly came down to cosmetics, not functionality, when picking out a phone. Then smart phones came out but there weren't many choices, so if you wanted a smart phone it was still pretty easy. Now you pick out the latest and greatest in phone technology and the next month someone comes out with a phone that cooks your breakfast and does you laundry and your stuck with one that only makes you snacks and does the dishes.

While it can be irritating to see a better phone come out 1 month after you shelled out $200 for yours...I've had my Droid for several months now and, with the latest Froyo, I have to say I'm pretty darn satisfied with speed and capability. Almost completely, actually. At this point just waiting for some apps to get a little better/bugs worked out.
I've got a file browser now that I can connect quickly and easily to my laptop via wifi (no more USB!!!!). Was just playing around with a wireless tether app (a little buggy, but would work in a pinch). Flash works. Battery life is pretty decent - at least decent enough to easily make it all day. Bluetooth works great. Mp3's and Pandora....
Now if the rumored monster at the end of the year comes out, then I may consider an early upgrade, but this phone pretty much has everything and does more than I need. A better camera and 720p video, as well as HDMI out, I suppose would be nice, but stuff I hardly use. I would like to have more ram and storage, but 16 gigs is plenty unless you are a lazy pack rat (which I am).
Well, I take that back....the next gen might set me up for a good long while - more ram, more storeage, longer battery, maybe thinner/lighter with no keyboard, etc taken as a whole would be a pretty compelling upgrade. Won't be long and google will be throwing new goodies at us that the current Droid specs probably just won't quite manage. But, yeah, I'm going to resist the temptation of getting excited over marginal upgrades.
