I completely respect any person that works at any job......I'm truely happy as hell they are working and have a job......whatever it may be. Most everyone has hair and most people care about their hair.......people who make a living dealing with hair are very needed. They are just like every other job in the world some are tremendous at all aspects of what they do and some are cruddy. I have zero problems with people who tip for many things...it is very nice for the most part.

Actually........I'm just kidding about my hair...I get it cut every other week at Redondo Salons and it costs me $45 dollars and I always give her a $60 bill and have her keep it. I also scored a 34 on my ACT, bowled a 300 game, had a 91 mph fastball in school, shot a 65 on 18 holes, live in a house with 6 bathrooms and 3 kitchens, drive a new porsche, am 6'9, have size 19 shoes and I typically piss about 27 feet 3 1/4 inches.....uphill.

The hairdresser works more hours and days per year than you do. Maybe you do deserve a tip.

It cost me 15 bucks to get my hair cut and I usually tip between 3 and 5 dollars. I don't care what the cost is that is all I am going to tip because they are performing the same job. It's like when I went to NYC and I had a bigger bar tab because beers were 7 dollars. There is no difference from a bartender back home than a person in NYC reaching down to grab me a beer, I do realize the cost of living is higher, but it's the same damn job.

I did, but mostly because of the girl cutting my hair. There were times where I was the only dude in there but not always.

I always try to tip people who perform services that otherwise I would not get what I want without, but I admit I'm a little biased because I am a server and I know what it's like. I always try to tip the delivery guy, because most people around her don't realize that in our town, most delivery drivers don't get a break for their gas...so although they make min. wage, if they didn't get tips, they'd actually be making well below minimum wage. And I'm not going to pick up my pizza that's for damn sure. I also do tip my barber, and it's not much usually like 2 bucks on a 10 dollar haircut, but I feel 20% is a pretty standard, even number for many services provided. Now, as a poster above mentioned, it's the same basic service, so if I was forced to go to a place that charged me $30 and it was the same haircut, yeah, I'm only tipping you like $2 still. Just because you jack up the price of the service you offer doesn't mean that you automatically get a higher tip for the same thing I can get cheaper.

And before anyone says anything, I work in a fairly decent restaurant, and I always get people that say, well your restaurant's higher prices allow you to make more of a tip than a lower priced restaurant, since tips are usually calculated off of a percentage. I always tell my tables if they ask (rarely, but some do) DO NOT tip me off the price of your food, tip me off of how well the service was. I've had people leave me $20 on a $30 check before because they thought I was awesome and I've also done what I felt was an excellent job with a table that had a $70 check and been stiffed. It happens, because everyone's different. There is no right or wrong answer...if you feel the person did a good enough job that warrants a tip than tip them, if not then don't. There's much more of a gray area in jobs that make at least guaranteed min. wage or higher per hour vs. jobs like mine. I don't get a paycheck most weeks so tips are all I make. In that case I think it's a lot more rude to say you got good/great/excellent service and not tip your server or bartender than it is for someone who at least has some form of a paycheck to look forward to at the end of the week. JMO

I guarantee you get a better hair cut and experience at a place that charges $25-$30 than you do at a place that charges $10. The people at the shops that charge more are not just jacking up the prices and doing the same shit job that you get at Great Clips. They are usually more established, take more pride in their work, and are overall more skilled than the people who are charging you a couple bucks to basically just get you in and out of the seat as fast as possible.

It depends on what you're going for. It doesn't take a great amount of skill to give me a haircut because mine is pretty basic. I have been getting my haircut by the same person my whole life but when I went away to college or have been out of town other places have worked just fine. Personally I just don't see a reason for me to ever pay $30 for a haircut.

I honestly never thought it made a difference...until I started getting my hair cut at a nice place. Even if you have a really basic hair cut...the people at the shop that charge more are going to take more time to make sure your hair is faded evenly and correctly. They are going to take the extra time to make sure all the lines on the back of your neck and around the ear and face are lined up straight and even. Those chicks at Great Clips can fuck up the most basic of haircuts. I know because they did it to me. It took three times going there and having them screw it up before I started shaving my head. Now that I go to a nice shop, I can grow it again and I get a much better cut.

I know that not all of it goes to the hairstylist. Most hairstylists I know are charged booth rental fees. I know many of them set their own prices, I think when charging that much they should incoporate everything into the price.

I know they are doing a lot more work and they are making a lot more money hourly as well. I'm not saying they don't deserve the money that they are charging, what I am saying is set a price that you think you deserve for your services and charge that. A tip shouldn't be implied.

My barber in Ytown does all of that and more. He actually takes a straight razor and hot shaving cream to relieve my hairy neck syndrome. He only charges like $11 a haircut. I guess it all depends on the person.

My haircut costs $10 and I always add a $5 tip. At Christmas and before Mother's Day (she's a mother) I tipped $10. It's not a big tip monetarily, but I think that 50% and 100% are pretty good tips. I also have no problem paying $15 every 6 weeks for a trim.

The lady who cuts my hair is also a family friend so she doesn't charge me as much as she should anyway. I have longer hair so it's hard for me to find a place to get my hair cut (which is why I go see her even though I now live an hour away). I can't go to a barber because my hair is longer than anything they deal with, and most salons only do women, or if they do men, my hair will end up looking too feminine. This lady's been cutting my hair for years and she cuts it how I like so I'm willing to make the hour drive and tip 50%.

When we lived in New Albany my sister used to get her hair done at Kenneth's and it would be $150 every time. Something like $90 for cut, $30 for color, and $30 for tip.

If the cut cost 15... And I payed my fat assed hair dresser a 20 and told her to keep the change...

No offense to your wife, but this was stupid as fuck.

I do get my hair cut -- not done -- by appointment at a hair salon, so I tip about $3 for a $14 cut. I also know the lady who cuts my hair so that probably has something to do with it. Otherwise, I doubt I would tip more than $2 or so.

Mostly when I'm in L.A., but sometimes other places, I go to Asian massage parlors. They get a little mouthy (yeah, I said little) and they get tipped pretty well. One doesn't have to do with the other, though, and really all I'm paying for is a massage.
