bigkahuna, never in a million years. They may have a moderately successful football program in the last five years, but they surely are no where close to PAC-10 level. Boise is a small market in a small state that is on a hot streak. Remember Fresno State in the late 90s? About the same situation with Boise State.

BSU can't keep it up forever, and unlike giant programs in the BCS leagues, BSU can't just reload.

Boise State is definitely good enough to be in the Pac-10, but their market is minuscule and thus they will probably never get an invite. People need to remember Idaho and Montana were at once members of what is now the Pacific-12.

But let's please realize Boise State's success is not a "hot streak."

The best thing Boise State can hope for is the Mountain West to invite Fresno State, Houston, and Nevada and get a BCS automatic bid that way.

Adding those 3 schools won't get it done. They have a ton of dead weight at the bottom of that conference that kills their average computer ranking which is one of the criteria for inclusion in the BCS. If they add those three schools they will be the best non BCS conference, but they have had that distinction for the last 5 years at least. Fresno, Houston and Nevada won't put them over the top in that average ranking of conference members category, it will close the gap, but it won't come close to erasing it.

I'm not saying that they WOULD have gotten an invite, I'm asking if you think BSU is kicking themselves because they didn't wait to see if they COULD. Now, there is no chance of them getting one because the ink isn't even dry yet on the MWC contract.

Probably not. They never had a chance to get into the Pac10 and I'm sure they knew that. I'm sure they are still fine with being in the MWC, because it's still stronger than the WAC even w/out Utah, and the MWC will probably expand again in the near future.

There is and always was zero chance of Boise ever joining the Pac-10.

Technically Boise State is already an associate member of the Big Ten.

First of all, I think Utah has a solid program which really began for all intent and pupose with the arrival of Urban Meyer. Utah also has good timing on their side because USC will not be as potent for a couple of years, but I don't think it will take six to eight years for them to return to prominence. Too many available talented kids, too many beautiful women, and very nice weather. Plus, USC is part of that Hollywood mystique and they will be back with a vengeance. It will be interesting to see if Utah can recruit the West Coast and come up with enough great players to compete over the long haul with the regular PAC 10 teams. We'll have to wait and see. As far as their (Utah's) record versus PAC 10 teams, I notice that there are no games with USC and they lost pretty much all their road games and won at home. Does this translate into a .500 team in the PAC 10? If so, the BCS will be a lot further away from the Utes than they were before joining the new league.
