I don't know if it's just where I'm at in the Chicago area or what. Everywhere I go everything is in English and Spanish. Walmart, restaurants, fast food. I go to McDonalds and half the advertisements are in Spanish and this is on the Navy base. I don't get why things aren't just in English. If you come here from another country you need to learn English not be catered with things printed in your language. Just needed to rant.

We don't have a national language and the Mexican are becoming less of a minority by the minute (aka humping like bunnies).

I think you are at Great Lakes, and if so, the area around there is Mexico. You can't even go to Wendy's and order without having to guess at what they are saying. I'm fine with people living here, legally, but try to learn the damn language.

Yes I'm in Great Lakes and it's like little Mexico here but still learn the language. Old timers coming over had to learn the language or they wouldn't even be able to get jobs.

Perfect example of why English should be taught to them

Went to Charley's at Great Northern on Monday. I asked for a Chipotle Chicken sandwich. They started making me a Sweet Asian Steak sandwich. I don't know how she didn't understand how I said CHIPOTLE CHICKEN. If I would have said pollo de chipotle maybe she would have understood me.

Capitalism.

This is a free market....businesses are making a smart decision by making their product accessible to a good portion of the population. Its not illegal, its just smart business. Why should they stop just cuz it annoys some people? Its not like they stopped putting it in English.

San Diego is pretty bad about this (as you would expect with our proximity to the border). I don't have too much of a problem with it though. Our country is great because of the large diversity of nationalities and people that we have.

Sorry, but old timers who came over not only never learned English, but many of them never even tried to assimilate into our culture. That's how little italy and chinatown and German Villiage popped up in every city.

I went to one of the Dollar Generals here in Logan and picked up something and it didn't have one word of English on it.

I took it to the front and ask them what it was and they had know idea {it was in a can}.
It was on the shelf with can foods but it didn't match anything they had.
The manager just looked plain BLANK and gave it to one of the workers to put in the back.

I just wish they'd make a little effort to learn English... not saying you've got to speak it fluently, but at least learn key words/phrases and not have your kids translating for you all the time

I don't really mind things being printed in multiple languages. I live/work in NYC so I'm used to that. What I don't like, as was mentioned, is people in the service industry not being able to speak or understand basic English. I'm not saying you have to be fluent, but I shouldn't have to point to things in order to get what I want.

I also find it funny that people in other countries are better English speakers than most people in the United States. When I went to Germany, nearly everyone I met was practically fluent, especially the younger ones. And even the ones who knew a little at least tried.

Don't blame it on the people working those service jobs, blame it on the managers that hire them. They're just doing what they can to make a living, and working damn hard, as well.

It doesn't bother me. People getting upset over alternate instructions on a Tide box are pretty hilarious though.

If they would just get our orders right at Wendy's, Burger King and Taco Bell we'd all be much happier.

There were alternate language ingredients on my bag of Peanut M&M's, so in my rage over that situation, I went to find a Hispanic family, and pelted them with every last M&M in that bag.
