Anyone with an ounce of common sense certainly knows what USC did to recruit the players. IF you, like other think USC was slapped SO severly ONLY because of Bush, your the moron. There is NO question more went on at USC that will never come out. Wow, is it that hard to figure out?

I'm not surprised that they aren't going to revote but I am a bit surprised that they aren't going to strip USC of their title. Although I guess the only game that season they are forfeiting is the title game becuase Bush was eligible during the regular season. So you could argue that it's just a pre-bowl game championship.

I'd be glad to. As soon as you start to monitor everyone else to continues to do it. I do it rarely, and get called out? Please. Look to the source..or sources. If you look south, you can find many in fact.

I don't know why anyone would expect the AP to do this. They won on the field, plain and simple. The AP named Oklahoma as national champ in 1974 when they were ineligible for a bowl game and on probation.

WHy do people keep saying they won on the field and had no kind of advantage? They certainly did have an advantage IMO. They flat out cheated. If you don't think they didn't cheat while recruiting, your kidding yourself. Thats an advantage, period. Lack of institutional control. They did it multiple sports. THere was NO monitoring going on at all. The entire sports program deserves to be questioned.

Really? Look two posts above your most recent post. Look at the post directed at mine. I realize I shouldn't have done it. But I tire of being called names. So I just joined the party. Sorry.

Well, again, pretty simple. I saw the games and I saw the outcome. You can talk about this and that happening outside the stadium, three years earlier and whatever you want. The thing is, the players played the game(s) on the field. You are trying to apply hypotheticals and they are all based on non-game related things. Money didn't make Reggie Bush or anyone else better. You don't know what would've happened if he'd been ruled ineligible before and didn't play. I base my history on exactly what happened and that is that USC won. If it makes you feel better to erase it from your mind, have fun with that.

Same goes to you. You called people out for name calling in a topic, so I said something to you in a topic. If you dont follow rules, why should they? Im not going to make this an argument though.

Because I tried that yesterday and the poster ignored my PM and got an infraction point, thought I would be nice and give a warning someone would actually listen to.

I think that also since Bush was only ineligible for the bowl game and not the regular season USC still would have played in the title game even had Bush been suspended for the title game. Bush did account for 20% of USC's offense in the title game, but he also didn't score any of their 55 points, so I suppose it's reasonable to think that even if he hadn't played in that game (and he was the only player ruled retroactively ineligible) that USC still would have won that game without him. Had he been ineligible all year and had they been forced to vacate all of their wins form that season and not just the bowl game I think they would have had to vacate the championship.

Pretty well sums up my view:

"The 2004 poll stands," AP sports editor Terry Taylor confirmed in an e-mail to the Los Angeles Times on Friday. "The poll is intended to measure on-field performance. If teams are allowed to play, they're allowed to be ranked and USC certainly played in 2004."

Please enlighten us all and let us know exactly what USC did to recruit their players. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows you don't get penalized for something that isn't in the NCAA's final report.

CBF, you're one of my favorite posters here, but I have to agree with Mighty Gators. Reggie Bush was the only player named in the report. Maybe USC did commit other violations, maybe some in recruiting, but they could only punish the school for what they felt they could prove and what they felt they could prove was the Reggie Bush stuff (and really they can't even prove any of that, they just have enough circumstantial evidence to believe reasonably that he received improper benefits). If you could punish schools simply based on speculation without any proof or circumstantial evidence leading to reasonable assurance of guilt then OSU would have been hit hard by the whole Maurice Clarette deal. However, they never found anything or even enough to give reasonable belief to his story so nothing ever happened. The fact remains that this punishment is for Reggie Bush and Reggie Bush alone.

no, while Auburn was undefeated you can't hand the title to them years later. But no one can take away that they were undefeated.
