My girlfriend was trimming the dog's claws and the pup jerked as she clipped. She clipped it very close and it started bleeding pretty good. Pup only weighs about 20 lbs. and bleeding was hell to control. We used a baggy full of flour and tapped it around his leg. It stopped for a bit, but because he is so active, he jumped off the couch and it started again. went back to the baggy with flour and its been on his paw for about an hour. It seems to have stopped again, but to prevent him from licking it and hurting it, we left the baggy on for a bit. Just wondered if anyone in chatter land knows any other home remedies for controlling the bleeding on a puppy claw or keeping them from messing with it?

Amputate the paw. Just kidding. Dogs have veins that run up into the toe nails. If you cut the nails too short this is what can happen. I always take mine to a professional.
Duck tape a sock around the paw. This worked for me before.

I wouldn't keep something over it too long, it needs to dry up and heal. An E-collar would be ideal.

This stuff just makes me cringe and why I'm too much of a wimp to do it on my own. I always have the vet/office do this for my cats and dog.

I should have trimmed his claws, the girlfriend always cuts them o far and doesn't pay enough attention to how serious it can be when you cause them to bleed. When I trim them, I always have the paw in my other hand, take a minimal amount off and make it quick. Lesson learned.

I will probably have to get a cone for his neck. He is a compulsive cleaner always licking his paws. He actually got it to bleed again about 45 minutes ago. we are leaving the baggy with flour on all night and I am going to stay up to make sure he is ok, so if any other chatters are up late, I will be here.

Sad how I used to not give a crap about dogs... They didn't do anything for me, but this puppy stole my heart. I would do anything for that damn dog and he turned me into a dog lover.

My dog Brutus finally died a couple weeks ago. He was almost 15 years old. He was really smart. I have had dogs since I was a kid. If you train them, they will amaze you how smart they get.

My puppy Brewster is very smart... Just very stubbern... I just want his little paw to stop bleeding so I can relax a bit...

My dog just stepped on a bee and got stung about 30 min ago.Anyone ever had this happen?He's only 10 pounds I gave him half a baby asperin and now waiting to see if he will have an allergic reaction to the bite.My vet is closed today so i called wheeling animal clinic for their suggestion.

Our dog catch bees out of mid-air and try to eat them. We keep a close eye on them in the summer.

Yeah, my cat actually likes to catch wasps and chew on them to get all their guts out and then she spits them out at random places.
She's obviously not allergic or has any reactions. I think she likes to feel the sting.
She's definitely weird.
