Good hire, but not one that will make any of the big name FA's jizz for Chicago.
He's Mike Brown 2.0 imo, which isn't bad, but also not great.

A well respected guy around the league. I think he'll be seeing a good amount of success in the future with the guys he has right now.

Has been a successful assistant for years and is credited for being an expert in defense. First head coaching job though and that's a whole different ballgame. Different sports but I could see him being a Dick LeBeau kind of guy. Amazing as an assistant coach but just not built to be a head coach which is always what I think about assistants who are passed on for a long time.
With that said I feel it was a very good hire. Is it a hire that slam dunks LeBron to Chicago? Eh...I'm not so sure. A quality coach but not really a huge name either. I think he'll do a great job though with the Bulls though I thought Del Negro did a pretty good job as well given the circumstances of the season.

Nice hire IMO. He's been a coach on the rise for some time. I have no problem with this hire whatsoever. What direction do you guys think the Bulls should have taken? I am interested. Doug Collins? Randy Ayers? Eddie Jordan? I wish more teams would go get innovative, bright guys like Thibodeaux instead of hiring retreads.
Who would those key free agents have preferred? Calipari? Bad NBA coach last go around and he says he isn't leaving. Phil Jackson? If you think he is leaving L.A. you are naive. He was tweaking ownership. He is banging an executive there and has been for a while. It's L.A. or retirement for him.

jordo, nobody said it was a bad hire. I compare it to Mike Brown because that's the SAME EXACT type of coach he is. All anybody is saying is it's not a slam dunk to bring big name guys to the Bulls.
Obviously Chicago is going to get somebody, just because they have the cap to do so. I don't think it's LeBron or Wade though.

I'm not a Chicago fan at all. I just want to know who you guys think they should have hired? Thibodeaux has deserved a shot for a while. I think at this point Chicago would be happy to have gotten another Mike Brown.

They did^ Evidently Tom didn't have any interest in that job though, even though the Hornets GM (Jeff Bower?) was the first one a couple years back to heavily consider Tom as a head coach.

still no mention of the guy who Chicago should have hired to get Lebron/D-wade/Bosh in there. I never said that YOU said it was a bad hire. I just find it kind of laughable that because Thibodeaux and Mike Brown both have defensive mindsets... Thibodeaux instantly equals Mike Brown. Let's say you are right, how bad would Bulls fans have it? A team who consistently wins a ton of regular season games.. that's not so bad.
But yeah, Lebron and the other guys will definitely prefer to play for a guy on his 3rd or 4th stop in the league. (There's a reason those guys aren't still in the league).

LOL. Again, you're completely missing our points.
NOBODY said it was BAD and NOBODY said him being Mike Brown 2.0 was BAD.

Kind of like how you are missing my point. I'm not sure who Lebron and those guys would want that would attract them to Chicago, and you guys who think this isn't they guy, won't tell me who is. Every "sexy" candidate is currently employed with no signs of leaving. Which was MY point. Ayers, Eddie Jordan, Kelvin Sampson, etc are the alternatives. It was smart to grab up Thibodeaux while they still can.

Nobody knows, all anybody is saying is Tom isn't a guy who will make LeBron or any other big name guy say "Wow, I gotta go play for that guy"
That's why I'm saying you're missing the point.

Thibodeau was Chicago's best option IMO. Maybe he doesn't have name recognition, but you can count on one hand the number of coaches that do and they are all entrenched at other places.

I love that I am soooo well respected on here that my name gets thrown out on threads that I haven't even posted in yet lol (note sarcasm lol) .... Anyway it's good to see Tibs get a head coaching job although I didn't want him to leave Boston though. He is a very defensive minded coach and I hope he does well.

Had I been the Bulls, I might have gone ahead and taken a shot at Mike Brown himself. If everyone is saying it's not a bad thing to get someone like Mike Brown, then why not get the real article. Highly respected, a decent and good man, an outstanding defensive basketball coach and with a 61-21 record last season in the NBA. How many coaches out there can match Brown's resume? I also think it would be a mistake to hire someone because of who might be enticed to come to Chicago. Chicago should hire the best coach and build their team on that basis...not on who may or may not show up. Don't develop a situation where the tail wags the dog. Your coach should be totally in charge. Not the players.

He was the best candidate available. It's funny that now "defensive-minded" has become a bad thing, in Ohio anyways. The thing is, if he was like Mike D'antoni, that wouldn't cut it either because: A) it doesn't win championships and B) Lebron would never play for him because of the lack of defensive emphasis (<-- actual quote from a Cavs fan a while back).
So which is it? What makes the ideal coaching candidate? Should he be one of Lebron's boys live in Lebron's basement right now? Or should he have jumped around the Eastern conference and failed to win in any of his previous stops?

Because if they are trying to get Lebron, you don't go get the guy Lebron pushed under the bus. I know there are no hard facts or quotes out there, but I can guarantee if Lebron wanted him back in Cleveland, he'd be there. The fact is Lebron and Brown seemed on a different page towards the end.

Are you serious? You're basically just saying what you want to say, because NOBODY on this thread said it wasn't good enough. It was a very good hire, all anybody is saying (for the 100th time) is that it's not the BIG NAME guy that would make players say "Wow, we gotta go play for that guy"..
HOWEVER, It's a little telling to me that Boston wasn't even looking at Tom as the next head coach. They didn't even consider him as head coach material. THAT in itself just raised some questions to me.
Word around the league, and according to Yahoo! is that Dan Gilberts #1 target may be Tom Izzo.
Also, you're quote about LeBron not playing for D'Antoni came from a huddler, but the original quote came from LeBron after the Cavs smoked the Knicks this season at the Q. He said, and I'm obviously paraphrasing "I could never see myself playing in a system that didn't focus on defense, I never have before"
