Is he going to have surgery to fix how overrated he has been since coming into the Majors?

The only reason I'm hearing on why Santana is still in the Minors is because of his english and how he handles a pitching staff.
Like I said back in May, he didn't need to come up right away just to start his arbitration clock a year early. I wasn't aware the deadline was June 1st, for some reason I was thinking it was the middle of June.. Either way, he should be coming up soon.
There really is NO reason to rush the guy though. Santana or not, we're not contending. Lou Marson is going to be the career back up to Santana, and they wanted to get him up here to get him ready to handle a ML staff as well.
The only reason Mike Redmond is on the club is because he's been Fausto's personal catcher. And if Redmond is the reason to Fausto returning to form, I'm all for it.

hoops hit it on the head. Santana's grasp of the English language and his handling of pitchers is the only thing holding him back. The reports I've heard are that he has improved both of these abilities. He will be here soon. The question is, who will back him up? Do you send Marson down to catch every day and keep Redmond, or is he here to continue to be Fausto's personal catcher?

As far as Grady goes, I truly believe this surgery will be the thing that brings back the player we once knew. He hasn't been completely healthy for more than 2 years. Hopefully this brings back his ability to play 110% like he did before.

I don't think having Santana hitting major league pitching when he is clearly ready to do so would be rushing the guy. IMO, the fact that the Indians aren't contending should be a reason for why the young players who have major league futures like Brantley and Santana should be playing everyday in Cleveland.
I also hope to god that the reason that he isn't in Columbus is because of his "English". Maybe the argument about his defense/intangibles has some merit, but like I said, any run Santana allows in that department that any of the current bozos that are catching in Cleveland wouldn't is offset by the fact that he would probably drive in twice as many runs.

Yeah the English business is such BS. How the F is he catching every freaking day in Columbus if he can't communicate with English speakers?

Yeah, I'd imagine that Columbus doesn't have that many more latino players than Cleveland.

Plus how did Bartolo Colon ever pitch in Cleveland then? He couldn't speak a word of English!

A catcher that can't speak English is almaost as bad as a QB that can't. It's a very important position. He was improving his ability to communicate at the AAA level, where it's much less important to win games. I don't see what's so hard to understand. We all know he's ready to play offensively.

Grady Sizemore probably needs more time to pursue his male juggalo career that he is no doubt moon-lighting as.

There is a lot of irony in that statement, seeing as the Clippers are in first place in their division in the International League and the Indians are currently last in the AL Central. Bottom line...I don't care if Santana is a deaf and a mute, he should be in Cleveland. The dude was put on this Earth to play baseball. Let him figure out the kinks of playing catcher in the majors. The sooner they bring him up, the sooner he is going to develop a connection with the Indians pitching staff.

Exactly what I was going to say. He seems to on the same page as the pitching staff so far haha

Yeah, it only takes a bit of simple sign language to send the message, "Throw strikes, get people out, receive cheeseburgers. LOTS of cheeseburgers!"

Yeah, I'd have to imagine the only "In & Out" he's experienced in his life was a quadruple with cheese.

It really seems like the Indians are exerting a lot of brain power to come up with bogus excuses for not bringing Santana up. haha. I thought I had heard it all and then they say his English is a reason? What's next? He gave the manager a dirty look?
