My wife and I are looking for a place to go camping in July (hopefully everything isn't already full), but are not sure where we should go. We live in Canal Fulton, OH (between Akron and Canton) and don't want to drive more than a couple hours...which keeps us in the general Northeast Ohio area. We are hoping to have a place with some good hiking, maybe caves, maybe fishing...not sure what else a campground could have....maybe swimming.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hocking Hills..it's a 2 hours and 15 minutes drive. Plenty of places to stay..so doubt you have to worry about anything being full.

Being a former employee of the State Parks... My presonal fav is Mohican, followed up by a close second by Salt Fork, Now i live like 8 miles from Salt Fork so if it wasn't for that it may be my fav... i tend to take the place for granted... Hocking is a wonder place to go to... but i'd have to say once you go to either mohican or salt fork the drive won't be need to Hocking... you'll love them both!

have fun and if you do decided on Salt Fork send me a PM if you want some specifics....

RED

Edit... fyi i'm getting married at Salt Fork in July thats how wonderful of a place it is....

Big fan of East Harbor. They have a nice beach and there is a lot to do in that general area. I haven't been since I was a kid though so things may have changed.

NW, look around the area... There are MULTIPLE campgrounds around the Mohican River near Loudenville. My family has gone there once a year for as long as I can remember. We usually go on labor day weekend and its packed, but there are always open spots. I believe the place we stayed has always been Valley View Campground. The Mohican River is still one of my favorite places to go, most spots on the river you can bring a lawnchair out, sit right in the river with a cooler tied to your chair and ENJOY the view. (boobies EVERYWHERE) Hocking Hills wasn't bad either, but I prefer Mohican.

The camp sites at Berlin lake are actually really nice.

My family has a house on Berlin Lake but I still usually end up camping at the Mill Creek sites at least once a year with friends or someone. It's nice.

I am doing good and that's what I thought you would say about Clay's Park. My second suggestion would be Salt Fork.

if you are coming from NE Ohio...Hocking Hills should still be within your range...
Lake Hope is another option.
Mohican, as others have said..may be more booked,
Salt Fork is always nice,
I am a big Burr Oak fan...

If you want to go across the border, check out Ohiopyle........MY Favorite!
