Can this guy actually make in-roads with the Democrat party trying to advocate what he does in his video and article? I kind of like seeing what he is trying to do and admitting that the leadership is not taking the American people where they necessarily want to go.

This was posted on the Huffington Post. You can't get much closer to the heart of liberalism than there.

What bothers me are the thug-like Democrats, the ones who say because people like me dissent from party orthodoxy on these two issues we have no business calling ourselves Democrats, are really Republicans, should get out of the party, etc.

As if people who support health care, oppose the Iraq war, support same sex marriage, like a whole slew of big government institutions and don't automatically oppose tax increases could make common cause with today's Republicans.

This "get out" mentality isn't an attempt to win a debate. It's an attempt to suppress a debate. It's the attitude of power-addicted interest-group Democrats who would rather lose the election than lose their grip on the party.

But the debate over the Democrats' tired dogma is coming. If you want it to come sooner, rather than later--and to come on Democratic terms rather than Republican terms--I hope (if you live in California) you'll consider sending that message by voting for my candidacy

I really enjoyed this article as it just repeats many of my own points of view. The section I quoted especially caught my attention simply because it tells the basic truth of what's happening to the democratic party.

I think there is a shake-up coming. And it's long overdue. The word democrat doesn't always have to equate to liberalism and unions, which has become a huge stereotype. Stereotyped to the point of caricature.

Hopefully, in the near future, we can see some balance within the party!

Yes they do make them... because I am one of them! I"m actually a registered Democrat! That's no lie! I've even been contemplating running in the Dem special primary in the 3rd Congressional District to eventually go against Mike Turner. The guy who won the original Dem primary this spring pulled out and now they need to get a new candidate. If I could get 50 signatures by 6/10 I'd be on the primary ballot!

Oh... and I found the HuffPo link on RealClearPolitics.com.

It certainly seems there are libertarian movements within both parties. Looks like the dems might be catching on to what has been happening within the Republican party in the past few years.

Kaus & Paglia have been my two favorite lefties for quite some time. While I don't hold out any chance of him actually winning, perhaps some of his message will sink in with those in power.

Side note: Mick has announced the 3 job bribes he would accept to drop his primary challenge!

There is certainly a liberal libertarian base. In fact, the TRUE liberal party/meaning is what many Libertarians today follow. They ideals of the Democrat party changed around the turning of the 20th century, away from today's libertarians to today's progressives. I personally don't like the name Libertarian, so I use Democratic-Republican (like the best President, Jefferson) or simply Classical Liberal to describe my views, the views of freedom.
