I hear the elliptical is great for tightening your vagina. Apparently Zwick isn't happy with the result.

First of all, Zwick, I don't know if you've ever noticed...but you know those things with vaginas? You ever notice how they're the ONLY ONES ON THE ELLIPTICAL? I mean, EVER? I have never, in my life, seen a red-blooded male on those things. I could get caught fucking a stable boy tomorrow, and I'd be less ashamed than if somebody leaked pictures of me on an elliptical.
Then, to get on here and start whining about results and shit? What did this turn into during NBA season? Jenny Craig Weight Watcher's where insecure white gurlz like you come to complain and whine about their insecurities and their self-doubt? Get that weak shit out of here, you Massillon tramp.

I never claimed I was a tough-guy, SQ. But, I'll tell you this much--I ain't gettin knocked out in no bar fight because my Marionaire spider-sense would kick in before a punch was ever thrown. I'm never in a position to ever get snuck. I've seen my friends make a living on suckers like that, and I'm definitely many things, but a sucker is not one of them. I just clown people for being clowns. If I was threatening to beat people up (as you've threatened to do to me in the past) and things like that--then I'd be an internet tough guy. And even if I was an internet tough guy, I wouldn't wear white sun-glasses or put gel into my hair. I also wouldn't be in a tanning bed, nor would I indulge in steroids.
The elliptical, I'm sorry, that just deserves to be clowned into the ground. I thought your testicles were supposed to rupture if you ever got on one of those, because clearly, you would never have use for them again. It's just something I assumed was natural male instinct.
You'd have to get off your ass and into a gym before u knew who was on a treadmill or elliptical. I know u aint ever seen a gym on the inside. If I ever have a question about a COD headset, I'll PM you. I know you don't know much about anythying else tho.

Guess it depends on what you're going for. A lot of younger guys aren't so much worried about cardio endurance and are looking for the "look" (jacked). As we get older, yeah, cardio plays a major factor. I'd still do plyometrics or some other form of cardio before I'd run distance.

...I don't do the elliptical because it bothers my knees ( sucks to get old) but I try to get in 2 to 4 miles about 5 days a week on the treadmill. I've also been doing 1 P90X class on Thursdays to break up the workout

sounds as if you need to increase your resistance

Fair enough, although I run or bike or whatever because I hate feeling winded because of a pick up game of some sport.BR1986FB;377733 wrote:Guess it depends on what you're going for. I had no idea men used elliptical machines and then admitted to it.

I got on an eliptical once, and wasn't on it long before I realized how much it sucked as a workout.
There's a reason you don't see the trainers telling the big fat people on Biggest Loser to use elipticals, they are always on treadmills...and I bet their knees are in bad shape too.

Is this your "exercise physiology"? I think anyone that's done any sort of weight management already knew that running was one of the best ways of burning calories, but thanks!ccrunner609;377426 wrote:Ok, let me fill you in on a little exercise physiology. Running burns more calories per mile then any other exercise on the face of the earth except for CC skiing.
So what you're telling me is that my heart rate, breathing rate and level of exertion has nothing to do with the amount of calories I burn? LOL, and you're a gym teacher? You do realize that ellipticals have the option to increase resistance right? And last I check I wasn't working out in a vacuum; gravity has the same effects on me when I'm on the elliptical as it does on any other piece of equipment.ccrunner609;377426 wrote: Running at any given pace burns about 100 calories per mile ran. On an elipitical machine that basically takes all the resistance away from moving your body weight along at any given pace is NEVER going to burn more calories then running against gravity.
2.2 miles on an eliptical machine might burn 150 calories at most.

I'll use one every once in a while if I've been running on hard surfaces for a few weeks straight... but I also realize I've gotto to do double the work to ge the results.
Sometimes I have issues with shin splints and its always nice to take a little break

For some reason that doesn't surprise me.

Lol, Zwick, I lift. I'm not one of those guys that's pounding protein shakes during my workout and walking around with a log to mark every weight I move and I'm not even trying to get big really, just maintain, but I know my way around a weight room, I lift anywhere from 3 to 6 times a week, on the reg.
I don't own COD or an X-Box, so if you're going to try to pigeon hole me, at least do it right.

Actually, there are spots in the elliptical "cycle" that are helped by gravity. In the part where the elliptical almost seems to "snap" back on the way down. That's gravity helping the exercise.

I've never experienced this "snap on the way down", maybe it's the resistance I have set. To say that gravity helps the exercise doesn't make sense, since an elliptical essentially works the same way a bicycle works, so if gravity assists on the elliptical it also helps on the bicycle. I guess you can also make the argument that gravity helps when you run since it assists in returning your feet back to the ground.

I don't see the problem with people using elliptical machines. I don't use them but I couldn't give one shit if someone else does.

I actually use an elliptical for about 40 minutes 3 times per week. I run some also, but my feet can't take that much running at one time. I actually burn more calories on the elliptical than running, but I have always wondered about what the machine says you burn, calorie wise, and how it actually feels. I spend most of the day on my feet and there is no way I can run after work so the elliptical helps get me sweating without the feet pain. I will say you have to get a good one, the cheap ones do not do anything and will not last, even on really high resistance they really don't seem to do a thing.

http://running.about.com/od/treadmillrunning/f/treadmillcaloriecounter.htm
"If you enter your weight before you start your treadmill run, the calories burned count is really just a rough estimate and will never be completely accurate. Cardio machines such as treadmills use standard formulas to figure out the amount of calories burned. But the calculations don't take into account important factors other than weight, such as body fat percentage and fitness level."
