I think the elliptical machine is a joke. I'm going back to running outside or on the indoor track.

Anyone else find that the elliptical machines do nothing for them? I don't trust any numbers given from any machine but I haven't found any positive results from the elliptical other than it's easier on your knees.

I was referred to these after a turf toe re-injury... they are a lot easier on your feet but they don't do a damn thing for you cardio wise.

I think the problem with the eliptical machines is that you have to spend twice as much time on them to get the same results from running. JMO

Swimming is the ultimate cardio workout.

You definitely won't have to worry about me going there. :D I mean..I would..but I had turf toe back in '93. Doc says I better stay away from that kind of activity.

If you want to stay jacked and retain muscle, run sprints. If you want to look like a scrawny distance runner, run/jog long distances. Sprints are outstanding for burning fat and retaining muscle mass. Better yet if you sprint uphill. Even better if you wear a weighted vest.

I don't have a problem with them. My right knee can't take distance running so it helps a lot. I usually burn about 700-750cal an hour.

I use them as a good warm up and a good warm down. I still do my track running and sprints for the real work.

My 55 year old knees can't handle running 3 days in a row (too many years running in combat boots), so every 3rd day I do the elliptical to save on the wear and tear. I agree that it takes at least twice as long to get the same benefit as from running.

I have one because I have bad knees. I do run when I can though.

Only problem is you still won't have any cardio endurance.

You get what you put into one. Mine goes up to 20 levels. I start out at 12 for 10mins then bump up to 15 for 30mins then bump up a level each 5mins. It's a killer workout. It's like jogging up a big hill for an hour.

I actually like the elliptical for my cardio workouts. I only spend 30 minutes (+ 2 min. cool down) on it 3 days a week.
My cardio routine is basically, run a 30 minute interval workout (with the incline maxing out @ 4) @ 6.3 mph on the treadmill then I get on the elliptical and set the level to 6 and keep the incline at 10. Then I do do intervals of coast and sprints. For the first 3 minutes I "coast" trying to stay between 3.6 & 4.0 mph, then for 2 minutes, I "sprint", trying to stay between 4.7 & 5.5 mph. I repeat that for the entire 30 minutes. My goal is to complete 2.2 miles in the 30 minutes. With that routine, I keep my heart rate in the range 165 - 185, and burn around 275 - 285 calories.

Don't use them, cause 1. I look funny doing it. 2. It screws up my form and 3. I would just prefer to treadmill or run outside.
Not a big fan of them. If I had a choice between a bike and an elliptical, I'll choose the bike.

Not a fan of ellipticals. I'm a treadmill guy. Ever heard of HIIT cardio? Try it out....I saw significant gains after the first few weeks.

*yawn* I was about to go to bed, but I'll get up in some ass real quick before I retire for the evening.

First of all, Zwick, I don't know if you've ever noticed...but you know those things with vaginas? You ever notice how they're the ONLY ONES ON THE ELLIPTICAL? I mean, EVER? I have never, in my life, seen a red-blooded male on those things. I could get caught fucking a stable boy tomorrow, and I'd be less ashamed than if somebody leaked pictures of me on an elliptical.

Then, to get on here and start whining about results and shit? What did this turn into during NBA season? Jenny Craig Weight Watcher's where insecure white gurlz like you come to complain and whine about their insecurities and their self-doubt? Get that weak shit out of here, you Massillon tramp.

..........................

I never claimed I was a tough-guy, SQ. But, I'll tell you this much--I ain't gettin knocked out in no bar fight because my Marionaire spider-sense would kick in before a punch was ever thrown. I'm never in a position to ever get snuck. I've seen my friends make a living on suckers like that, and I'm definitely many things, but a sucker is not one of them. I just clown people for being clowns. If I was threatening to beat people up (as you've threatened to do to me in the past) and things like that--then I'd be an internet tough guy. And even if I was an internet tough guy, I wouldn't wear white sun-glasses or put gel into my hair. I also wouldn't be in a tanning bed, nor would I indulge in steroids.

The elliptical, I'm sorry, that just deserves to be clowned into the ground. I thought your testicles were supposed to rupture if you ever got on one of those, because clearly, you would never have use for them again. It's just something I assumed was natural male instinct.
