Excellent job by Bruce to circle that ball down the line like a SS does to get the advantage on the throw to gun down the leadoff hitter in the 5th at 2nd for a big first out!

LeCure's handling of Rasmus is sure helping the Reds' cause tonight!

This is the game right here.......bring in Aroldis!

oops....forgot....bring in someone crappy! I'm sure we'll score 5 or 6 off of Carpenter

LeCure got lucky with Rasmus in the 1st....it was the same pitch he kills us on every game....just missed hitting it a mile...but that was certainly key

I've learned one thing tonight.

The Reds are going to hustle, and police themselves.

Carpenter seems to have just lost it this inning.

Cardinals have been pretty lucky this series, getting real breaks. The rain delay, last nights bleeders and cue shots, tonights bleeder by Ludwick and then the ball that hits Rolen.

These even out over time, so hopefully the Reds are due when they play again.

If Dusty would have done what worked with a full count with Rolen up, send the forced runners on the pitch, Rolen would have cleared the 1B/2B hitting hole well before Bruce's shot arrived there, and would have set the Reds up with 2 runs in and runners on first and third. But it ended up the break of the game for the Cards, who have had several so far.

Holliday takes Ondrusek yard. It's not looking good

I still hate it when the obvious crucial inning is the 6th or 7th innings and teams bring in their 4th or 5th best bullpen pitcher......I just never understood that at all......and bit us again.

Rhodes gets them 1,2,3 after the HR, but like you say Ironman92, the best pitchers are most valuable getting out of jams, not to get three outs without a run, starting with the bases empty. Rhodes was unflapped on the AB by Molina when after one strike the ump wouldn't call strikes on two good fastballs right there on the outer edge, putting Arthur at an extreme disadvantage at 3-1.

Like it or not it is still pretty early in the season, and if you ever want your bullpen pitchers to get into their groove, you're going to have to let them pitch in pressure situations. Thats when you really find out what they've got. The Reds were down anyways, with no signs of coming back, so send Herrera and Ondrusek out there to see what they can do. If the Reds come back to tie it, you're gonna need the better guys like Rhodes to preserve the lead.

That was my reaction as well, on the other hand I suppose it could have also ended poorly.

I think it was a dumb decision when he did it with Rolen up. You have two runners on with no outs and the meat of your order coming up. Why would you take the chance of running yourself out of a potentially big inning. Rolens AB could have just as easily ended in a strike em out throw em out or a line drive DP as it did a RBI single. It was a gamble that paid off, but I think it was a stupid move

Thanks for alerting me on where we are in the season.....but maybe remind yourself that 2 weeks ago when the Reds blew a huge lead in the 9th inning and you got on here and said the f word about 10 different times....so spare me the patience speech.

It was 1-1 with bases loaded in the 6th....by the time those pitchers Dusty used were out of the game it was 3-1....ballgame. Have you ever seen Chris Carpenter pitch versus the Reds...or anyone....he was on and that is one of those times you have to keep it tied if you can.

Let me ask you this and you can be the Reds' manager......same teams, tied 5-5 in the top of the 6th and the Reds have bases loaded and Harang is due up......there are 2 outs and Scott Rolen is available as he is not starting for he started 9 straight games......do you let Harang hit versus the lefty pitcher or do you pinch hit Janish/Nix/Corky/Heisey or do you pinch hit Rolen?

Not really......but my IQ is over 80 which should be enough to know that you get on here acting like a GM in 95% of your posts about the Reds and then to see you go apeshit on a thread was a little surprising from the way you speak on these topics.

Great comeback Walt.

That play last night where Rolen got hit was so unlucky. I really think if it would have been 3-2 with 2 on Carpenter would have been pulled and the Reds would have won. The rest of the month is a pretty easy schedule so they need to stay on top of the divison.
