I read this article in the examiner today. The author concurs with your opinion. He summed it up quite well.

Instead let's follow the money. Who benefits from "Cap and Trade" legislation? Could it be - Wall St? Could it be Al Gore? Could it be anyone from Goldman-Sachs? Yes, yes and yes! Al Gore is co-founder of Generation Investment Management. The other founder is former Goldman Sachs partner David Blood. This is the company that will sell carbon offsets to rich polluters under the Cap and Trade (ponzi) scheme. Then Wall St. will create derivatives and options markets and make billions if not trillions if and when this thing goes world wide. Who pays for it? The people who use electricity (you and me) generated by power plants that use some type of fossil fuel that creates carbon emissions, such as oil and coal, pay for it.

Now please understand, I am all for reducing pollution of all kinds, getting off fossil fuels, recycling and so forth. What I am against is taxing the many for the benefit of the few. In this case we have Wall St. with perhaps it's first direct tax. Kind of scary when you think about it. All of the money that power companies will have to pay for carbon offsets will come from the end users (you and me) and then go through Blood and Gore's (got a nice ring to it) company. Then Wall St. gets to create an entire derivatives market based solely on trading of said offsets, which will easily be a multi-trillion dollar market, again without any underlying assets. So how does this benefit the climate again? Not at all really. It's all about the money. The climate is just an excuse to move money from the many to the few.

It is a dynamic, continual process. In recent earth history, over two-thirds of Ohio was buried beneath thousands of feet of glacial ice. That ice is now gone. Why? Climate change! And there were no SUV’s, cow flatulence, or power plants around to cause it.

Carbon dioxide is a minor greenhouse gas and comprises only about 0.038% of the earth’s atmosphere. Water vapor is the major contributor (95%) to the greenhouse effect. Approximately 185 billion tons of CO2 enter the earth’s atmosphere each year – about 90 billion tons from biologic activity in the oceans and about 90 billion tons from such sources as volcanoes and decaying plants. Humans only contribute about 3% of the CO2 and 0.28% of greenhouse gases, therefore, 99.72% of the greenhouse effect is due to natural causes.

Development of all sources of energy is a prudent policy, but not by mandating and subsidizing inefficient, otherwise uneconomic sources. Over the past two decades, taxpayers have spent $30 billion dollars in subsidies to develop “alternative” energy. Today wind and solar combined account for less than one-half of one percent (0.005) of America’s annual energy consumption. These are supplements, at best, not alternatives.

And I am admittedly just a laymen in this field.
But do you think maybe the fact that the sun went through a period of intense solar flaring and is now not as active as it was in the past decade could have anything to do with temperatures here on earth?

^^^^^^ Absolutely. The sun is the primary driver of earth's climate fluctuations. Man tends to give himself WAY too much credit.

They are using the BS man made global warming theory to convince Americans to allow them to finish taking over the rest of the economy that don't already control.

As someone who is a semi-expert in chemistry and mathematics, you are VERY astute as to what caused "global warming" and what is now causing our current decade long cooling period.

The sun...imagine that, the earth's temperatures are mostly controlled by the source of energy for our planet, our star.

I don't know if they are or are not but the government has the ability to control the entire economy through a variety of actions. A common one is tax incentives and tax levies based on specific actions. There are also regulations requiring certain actions by corporations that contribute to the economy.

The government doesn't have to own a company to take over the economy.

As Gore is foolish for thinking the info he has outright proves anything, and you all are just as foolish for thinking anything you know proves anything the other way.

There's a lot of info out there, but no one in their right mind can yet tie it all together and definitively say that global warming is real or fake (unless they are a partisan hack and it helps their cause). Those of us that engage in actual science know better.

No one is saying that the Earth wasn't warming from roughly the turn of the century (1900) until about 1995-2000.

What some of us are saying is that this has nothing or little to do with human CO2 emissions as we have all be led to believe. Its caused by the sun and earth's natural heating/cooling cycles.

Follow the sun data, for that period of warming the sun had a larger output than it does now and we are not warming anymore (staying about the same or slightly cooler).

Someone willing to say "the sun looks like it 'matches' up pretty well with climate cycles, but we just don't know for sure yet if its the sun or CO2".

Great book with regards to this topic and the general topic of government ran/politicized "science" is "State of Fear" by the late Michale Crichton.

Its a fiction storyline based around actual science with regards to human created global warming.

Yeah derek, global warming IS false in the way that you believe it--because I know the way that you believe it. Is it happening? I don't know, I don't doubt that it is but it's a natural thing. Global warming caused by the human race is absurd.
