Syracuse is the real deal. That defense is amazing this year, and I love watching them play zone.

This game really came down to a tale of two different halves. Syracuse really came out in the 2nd half and dominated this UNC team. UNC played about as bad as they could have, but that's due to the 'Cuse.

Much props to them. This loss will benefit the young guys on UNC.

'Cuse look VERY impressive. Where did this Jackson kid come from? He is a player. Good looking team.

Only got to see the second half of this one and now I wish I wouldn't have. Syracuse deserves a ton of credit for the way they played, but what was that from Carolina? I thought they might lose this game, but I never expected them to get blown out. Actually, they got blown out twice tonight. After they cut the 20 point deficit down to 7, they started doing the same junk that got them in a hole the first time. It's going to be an up and down year for the Heels, which is something I came to terms with after the end of last season, but there's really no excuse for poor defensive effort and never taking care of the ball. It's going to be a bumpier ride than I expected if Carolina doesn't get its act together and at least make it difficult for teams to beat them.

Ed Davis played pretty well offensively, but that had to be the worst defensive effort I have ever seen from him. He got ABUSED all night by the bigger, more physical 'Cuse big men. He, along with the other Carolina big men, really need to step it up and get tougher. Also, someone needs to make a jump shot. This team has to find a way to be consistent from the perimeter or they will see zone defenses all year.

I was impressed with the way that Carolina fought back. They didn't quit, and that can be attributed to the leadership of Ginyard. He really picked up the intensity and got the younger guys going during that run in the 2nd half. Very impressed by the Wears in the 2nd half as well.

Carolina, I'm sure, will learn from this loss and get better. As we mentioned earlier in the thread though, they have a brutal schedule coming up so they better learn quick. As I have said before, by March, this will be a very good basketball team. The patience of Carolina fans will be tested until then, but it should be fun to watch how things develop.

Carolina will be fine this year but i think they will struggle against teams that have a big and strong front line. Here is a question for you guys. Has anyone everseen Syracuse play man to man defense. As much as i watch college basketball and have seen alot syracuse games i dont think i have ever seen them play straight up man to man defense.

Rick Jackson? He's been there for a few years now. He's playing well and did pretty good last season. Maybe you're thinking of Wesley Johnson. He's a transfer from Iowa State. HE is a player. He's got game inside and out. I remember reading about him last year when he transferred. He sat out a year and I heard he was good but I didn't know he was this good.

Syracuse played some M2M last season. They've done it several times over the last few years but only for a period of time here and there during games. As you know, their base defense has been their 2-3 zone.....but they've switched it up occasionally.

They also, from what Dickie V said, played ALL man against LeMoyne. And got beat.

Well as said by every other UNC fan, got outplayed tonight Cuse owned in the second half. I'm sure Roy will have something "fun" planned for the next practice. UNC better never shoot like that ever again!

Wow. Didn't catch him saying that last night. The LeMoyne exhibition wasn't on TV so I had no idea.

Carolina's lack of shooters could be problematic

They need Graves, Ginyard, and Strickland to step up and be the threats on the perimeter. Otherwise Carolina will see lots of zone. GaTech, FSU, Duke they will all probably run zone d against Carolina. Most teams in the country can't match up with them man to man.

I thought this team would struggle offensively, but I'm really disappointed in their defensive effort thus far. They have two good on-the-ball defenders in Ginyard and Drew to go along with length in the frontcourt. That should equal a good defensive team.

Carolina may lose the next three big games (MSU, UK and Texas). But it's still great to be a Tar Heel.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what he said. Cuse is a 2-3 zone team and there's now way around it. I love it personally, because it's not a sit back 2-3. They get out high and defend the 3 real well. They could just sit back and let teams get to the paint and let Onuaku and Jackson take care of business.
