European socialism in financial woes

But all over Europe governments with big budgets, falling tax revenues and aging populations are experiencing rising deficits, with more bad news ahead.

With low growth, low birthrates and longer life expectancies, Europe can no longer afford its comfortable lifestyle, at least not without a period of austerity and significant changes. The countries are trying to reassure investors by cutting salaries, raising legal retirement ages, increasing work hours and reducing health benefits and pensions.

While America clamors for the coveted "benefits" of European-style socialism, European governments are struggling to make ends meet on liberal social benefits despite per capita military expenditures far below that of the United States.

Shouldn't we pause, take a breather, look across the ocean at what lies ahead, and change course a bit?

The insistence by our current DC "leadership" to mimmick the European model is a bit maddening while alarm bells signaling "utopian" socialist unsustainability are ringing all over the European "Union."

Nice to see that Runyan is actually crafting a LONG TERM plan instead of just more of the same of Republicans complaining about spending when in fact they're really complaining that the spending isn't being done in the areas they want it to.

Once i start to see more than vague cries to cut government spending without any specifics to back them up, i'll start giving the Republicans a real chance to bring about the "change" their supporters want.

About time Republicans and conservatives move away from the generalities of Palin et. al. and start to look to the real brains and talent in the party to set out concrete, real strategies for fiscal responsibility.

They're learning that it is going to take more than just screaming "REAGAN REGAN" and "NO TAXES RAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR" to actually get back to where they want the United States to be.

Dump all the talking heads like Palin.

Let Runyan, who i really respect, and other Republicans take up the mantle.
