As an ESPN hater, I totally agree with him. Now we shouldn't necessarily feel bad for him that he was made fun of (they put it in slow motion and played the chariots of fire theme song) but he makes a good point that they totally ignored some great baseball by his teammates for some cheap joke. Not only that, but the fact that they actually went out of their way to make fun of him in an overkill way is totally bush league. You're SPORTS ANCHORS, not fucking comedians....if you wanna be comedians go follow in Craig Kilbourn's footsteps and fall off the face of the earth.

Being that I don't get the MLB Network (MLB Tonight is head and shoulders beyond Baseball Tonight) I put on Baseball Tonight the other night to see what they said about the Reds' complete game shutout. What story did they lead off with? The Yankees getting rained out. You're a joke ESPN.

I've been saying it for about two years now, ESPN is a joke. Horrid journalism coupled with idolatry is rather pathetic. They're terrible journalists, as they do what they're told by the NFL/NBA/MLB, and make up for to by drowning the airwaves with a select few stories and people.

I have a buddy that hates Brett Favre fervidly, simply because he feels Favre retires for attention so he can get on ESPN, and that is why he's on television all summer for doing nothing. The reality is ESPN that lacks stories and needs to put Favre on all summer because he's all they can talk about. In short, ESPN made my buddy hate Brett Favre.

It's all a big joke. Professional sports are a sham designed to trick people into believing there is fan loyalty in exchange for the almighty dollar; and sports journalism is just free advertising.

ESPN is pretty whack for the most part. It seems like they don't know what the fuck they're doing half the time when they do shit like this instead of focusing on the real sports aspects of games.

I especially hate Scott Van Pelt. To me he epitomizes this ESPN attitude of "look at me, the anchor, trying to be witty and cool instead of what really went on in the game".............

ESPN can do it because who is their competition? FSN? No. CNN/SI folded quickly. If you want baseball and baseball only, you dont tune into Sportscenter/Baseball Tonight you go to MLBNetwork(which I have and watch alot). If you want NFL watch NFL network. Its bad and its even spreading to ESPNews. They have a few anchors who are copying off SVP.

Molina was right in what he said. The Giants are an up-and-coming team with some great starters and the potential to compete for the playoffs...so ESPN's only Sportscenter highlight of a game was to mock his slow ass...in a game they WON!

Then again, what do you expect? During the NBA game tonight, during studio segments (aka: halftime, pregame), they seemed more interested in discussing LeBron's free agency future than the game, dedicating entire segments towards that.

I hardly ever watch ESPN.

I'm pissed I no longer have NBA TV, but I still have the NFL Network and the MLB Network. Both are far superior to ESPN.

ESPN is no longer about Sports journalism, they're more worried about trying to get a few laughs or reporting out of shock value. There is a reason ESPN has been compared to the TMZ of the sports world.

I mean seriously, showing that kind of clip just to rag on somebody? This isn't sports reporting, it's MAKING YOUR OWN story.. Sadly, that seems like all ESPN cares about anymore.

Stop watching it if you don't like it, that's what I did. Only time I do watch is when a game is on that I obviously want to watch.

I've seen numerous segments where the Tribe won and they showed only highlights of the other team (usually Yankess or Red Sox, naturally). Of course this is when they were good/decent. Now they don't even get a mention.

Nevermind that Red Sox/Yankees get the best TV ratings, regardless of region. Which is what this is all about. Which is why ESPN laughs at your hatred.

Yeah silly me for thinking the winning team should get a few highlights. Craziest idea I've ever had.

My point is, they care about having people watch. So yes, they spend more time on the teams that get them more viewers/more website hits.

Which is fine. Show some of their highlights along with the winning team. ZERO clips of the winning team should not happen.

I think you're missing the point, along with several others in this thread. Its not that we should feel bad for Bengie, he'll be fine. Its moreso the point he's making, which is that ESPN has little to no integrity anymore.

Oh and here we go with a million "they get ratings" and "people watch it, they must be doing something right" comments. Success does not equal integrity. If their ONLY goal is to make money and not have any journalistic integrity, then they are no more than a sports tabloid. If they wanna even pretend to have an ounce of integrity, they'll cut this bullshit out and get back to what made them a success in the first place.

Oh and Sportscenter will get ratings no matter what they put on, so I highly doubt the business decision was made "Hey guys, if we just totally mortify Bengie Molina and call him fat on Sportscenter, people will tune in!" The decision was made out of pure mean-spirit and attempted humor.

Their goal is to make money. If journalistic integrity was important to making money, Fox News Channel and MSNBC wouldn't have created the models they use today.
