I hunt whenever I get the chance....deer and turkey. I was out today with my crossbow, and was shocked at the lack of shooting that I heard. Usually the 2-day youth season has quite a bit of activity....BTW, I was hunting in Hocking County by Rock House.

Why you wasting all that time HUNTING in Hocking County???? Just wait til nightfall..drive out 93 at about 55 mph..your guaranteed to get one real fast. Minor damage to the car? Sure..but at least you got some food on the table! And you didn't have to sit there all day waiting for it either!

Screw Hocking. Tuscarawas county is where it's at, the stats prove it. Come one, come all, and kill at will, so our cars and trucks don't have to. I've been lucky to not ever hit one yet, but there are tons of dead ones lying out on roadsides.

Coshocton County harvested the most in 2008 by 700 deer.

Over 9500 deer harvested

God bless my 300 acres.

Nothin was runnin today, went with some buddies to Big Darby. Warden said he counted 80 different cars parked in 1 area and told us that no one usually gets any small animal around youth gun.

Can't wait to get out to my property this weekend. Hoping to take a deer, some rabbits, squirrel and clean out 4 geese.

Can anyone explain what "youth" season is? Like the only time during the year when kids under a certain age are legally allowed to hunt?

It was a special weekend where youths can hunt with a gun and not have to worry about all the adults hunting with guns. Plus it's before the full gun season, so they have a better chance of shooting a deer.

I think hunting is pretty lame, myself...Most ppl I know who hunt think they are really tough shit when they shoot a deer (or attempt to, even) LOL...If you did some pre-historic style hunting, bringing down a large ferocious animal using a weapon w/ which you'd have to be very close to your target, risking dismemberment and possible death, I'd give it up for hunters...

That said, this season when you're hunting, be careful and be fully aware of what you are shooting at....saw a story the other day about an elementary school girl who was shot at while walking home from the bus stop, by a hunter who mistook the fur on her coat for an animal....Try to have a clue when you're out there.

Try it sometime. It's not as easy as you think
BTW, I dunno anyone who thinks hunting makes them tough shit. Never ran into a person like that.

Suburban hunting is stupid IMO. Urban deer permits need to be bow only.

I've never hunted anything smaller than 30 acres

Most do it to put food on the table..not b/c there 'tough' shit..plus it keeps the deer population..which is already out of hand..down.

Would love to Deer Hunt but the gun season every idiot in the state thinks they are Daniel Boone and the woods are not safe.

Hunt on 140 acres in Guernsey County, just me, my buddy and my grandpa occasionally. Went with a buddy last year to Baltimore on a guys property we had permission to hunt. Apparently a guy and his brother showed up and asked to hunt and the guy said ok no problem. It's a nice size piece of land about 100 acres with only 4 people should be no problem. Well that guy and his brother brought 3 truck loads of people with him. It looked like a Bengals game with all that orange, needless to say I sat in the truck until my buddy got back which was about 15mins later after one of the guys was in his tree stand!

I run around on the Diesel Kubota all week with an AR-15 on the gun rack chasing people off the property. Back in the late 80's my grandpa had so many problems at his place that he had a big 4wheeler event Thurs-Fri-Sat (no sunday hunting then) to make enough noise to chase everyone off.

Nice. My grandparents are in their 80's and although he has signs posted I have seen evidence of people hunting on their property. Not really much they can do anymore, not like if they call someone they could ever find them in the act.

Have never hunted other than taking pot shots at groundhogs and rabbits in the garden. I am a bit excited as I will be trying goose hunting for my first time Friday afternoon. I am intrigued by it, and if we don't get anything we can always play fetch with the dog.

Why don't you come out to my place. I'll take ya out on the Kubota, we will drive right into the flock of geese, and you can shoot your limit.

Takes all of 15 minutes

Don't get me wrong, I love to hunt, My Boys want to hunt, I just have a hard time going in the woods in SE Ohio during that season. When I had coonhounds I would not hunt one week before gun season out of fear of losing the dogs. People will shoot at anything moving in the woods.
