^^^^^^You never know, Germany got their bid for the last WC with some last minute shenanagins. Can't remember the country who thought they had it in the bag but at the last minute someone pulled a fast one and Germany got the bid.

After it was confirmed by FIFA that joint bidding would not be allowed in the future, Libya and Tunisia withdrew both of their bids on May 8, 2004
Chile and Argentina had shown some interest as a joint bid, hoping to follow the same path as Korea-Japan 2002, but withdrew after joint bids were not allowed.

The next world cup is in Brazil. But yea in 2018 if it is in England I would probably have to go. Not to sure about traveling to Brazil though. Wish I could have made it to the Germany one.

Wiki isn't always a reliable source. Pretty sure that rule has been changed or FIFA wouldn't have accepted the technical plans form either Spain/Portugal or Netherlands/Belgium.

I thought Brazil received a bid only to have it turned down or revoked because of the massive infrastructure problems in that country.

*****edit***** They still have the bid, FIFA is keeping a close eye on their progress to make sure they bring things up to speed.

correct, I mis-typed. I DO NOT want to be traveling in Brazil though :D

I did mean 2018. Im young enough by the next WC (will be 28) but might not have enough expendable income. 2018 I will, but if its England I will probably do everything in my power to make Brazil happen.

That is enough, although I do love my Swedes, Russians, and Italian women as well.

Not enough looks at Spanish women, but my friends said Portugal women are insanely good looking.

For a time, FIFA said they wouldn't allow any joint bids after the 2002 World Cup. I have to believe this was due to all of the problems and arguments between Korea and Japan leading up to and during the event.

Korea and Japan did not put in a join bid. They were bidding against each other when FIFA determined a compromise after the two nations were doing all they could to discredit each other so that they could grab the World Cup.

Brazil will have it together in time. They will be hosting the Olympics and the World Cup within two years of each other and don't really have much of a choice but to get it done.

Ideally if you want cooperation don't pick two nations that have been nothing but adversarial towards each other for the last couple of centuries. That was a bit of oversight on the part of FIFA

Realistically....what is the chances for the US getting 3 over England?

That little glimmer of success in the Confed Cup has me spoiled. I want to come out saying the US will and can hang....but then in the back of my mind I can see a 3-nil shellacking.

I have soooo many friends in England that I would love to harass! I'd almost take a W over them and not make it out of the group!

I can definitely see a draw against England, but I don't see us winning.

I would be thrilled with a draw. I don't want to go into the final match against Algeria with 3 or fewer points. I have a bad feeling about that one for some reason.

anybody worried about a potential international incident(i.e. terrorist attack) occuring during this event? I mean, from what I've read about the security and some of the comments from people(I guess they're hoping the Americans get bounced before the knockout round so they don't have to deal w/ a potential visit from Barack Obama) it seems like people are really targeting it

These kind of scares are par for the course before big international events. The same kind of threats were made against China in the run up to the Beijing games

You're always going to have "terrorist" threats and scares with big International events.

Like I said similar statements were directed at beijing over their treatment of the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang in the run up to the games, and that was before the riots last July.

Hopefully that means that Zlatan is on his way out and the Big Bird experiment can come to a conclusion.

Jose Mourinho says the Champions League title is more important than the World Cup.

For him? Sure. But thats because he doesnt manage an international team. If it is any other reason than that, well he is a moron.
