That first goal was just sick. Almost laying flat on the ground when he kicked it. One of the better goals I've seen this WC. Still haven't seen the Forlan goal which you guys said was the best, but the first goal by Brazil in their opening game(not sure who scored it) that went parallel to the goal then in was the best I've ever seen. The degree of difficulty on that shot was insane and I just can't believe the guy even thought about putting that in the net.

Honduras are awful. Probably the second worst team in the tournament, ahead of North Korea. But, maybe not, at least PRK scored against Brazil.

David Villa is a fucking animal. I once met these Spanish chicks who taught me the chant they say when he scores. I was drunk so I forget how it goes.....dammit!

So who else hates this ball? Im not one for blaming a soccer ball for poor play, but NO one can keep a long range effort down. Hell most of them sail high AND wide. Even crosses and long passes are uncontrollable. Its made for some shit play, and has had the opposite effect on the game (they wanted more excitement with the ball flight).

I never played soccer but all of my friends who I've been watching with that played soccer told me that the gripe with the ball is perfectly legit and told me to watch how many deep shots are going high and wide and sure enough there have been a TON.

Kinda reminds me when the NBA tried to used that new ball that everyone hated.

Yeah, I dont doubt it. We are talking about World Class players who cant put the ball on net from 25 yards. The results speak for themselves.

I am actually gonna be playing with the Jabulani tonight, so I will report back after I do.

It has dimples (or the opposite, they actually come out), as well as the stitching not being symmetrical. It only has EIGHT panels (a typical ball has 32). The dimples (again, op postie technically) is only on half the ball and not the whole thing. It is heavier than a typical ball, and the way the "3D" panels are aligned, it creates for a "seamless" ball.

I think hes how the ball is formed. Its heat sealed with more panels than the previous WC ball. It definitely sails often. You can tell by the wtf looks players get when it goes long.

What does one of those run retail? I'm guessing around $150.

Now the real fun begins, with the last of the group stage games. Groups C, D, and F are still pretty wide open; schedule for tomorrow:

Mexico v Uruguay, 10am
Match between the two likely advancing teams of Group A. I expect both will play pretty conservatively in an effort to survive and advance.

France v South Africa, 10am
Um...France? Implosion. That will be interesting, to see what they're like after the past few days. Don't think either of these teams has a legit chance at advancing ...

Nigeria v South Korea, 2:30pm
Nigeria are in a pretty bad position, having dropped their first two games. South Korea can give themselves a good shot to advance with a good showing here.

Greece v Argentina, 2:30pm
Argentina are virtually through to the round of 16, while Greece are playing for their lives. I expect a decent game here, but doubt Greece will be good enough to hang with even a mostly defensive-minded Argentina.

Predictions to advance: Mexico, Uruguay, South Korea, Argentina

^^^And btw, they say its good that they dont have panels because it is smooth. But that makes it much tougher to get spin on a ball and it kind of takes away the grip you can get on it with your foot on passes. The way the ball is made and with the altitude makes for a better flight....but in reality it makes for a flight that just never stops. The ball keeps on going up and up and up.

Actually in Germany the ball had I think 14 or 16. This ball has only 8.

Yeah I remember reading the first article about how it was based on the previous ball technology but tweaked.

I was thinking today about some of last WC's goals compared to this tournaments so far. Villa's pair today were up there, along with Fabiano's yesterday. Other than that, I can't think of too many that were "amazing." Maybe Forlan's.

That one was incredible. I remember seeing that one around when it happened and thinking how tough that goal was.

Here is the one I was talking about. Maicon for Brazil scored the goal, the first in their win against North Korea. Maybe the goalkeeper should have been closer to the post but I'm sure he would have never guessed a goal could be scored from that location.

Schweinstiger(sp) for Germany had a SICK goal last WC as well. So many more great goals with that ball.

Also Michael Owen's with a volley from a bounce off the ground.

I also liked Slovenia's first one against the US. Nice placement. Perfect R1 shot!

Just got done playing with them. They fucking blow. Impossible to control if you try to put any power behind it. Literally have to be lucky and hit it perfectly. I smacked the hell out of the ball a few times and it sailed about 7 feet over the crossbar. No way should it have happened with the strikes I put on it. On long passes if you get it too high, it will just keep rising, it was very hard to get up and over the defense and then back down to your teammate.

I was actually able to get more spin on the ball than I thought I would be able to. But still not as much as you should.

It doesn't spin as much as I'd like but it isn't near as bad as people are making it out to be.

I'd like them to use a more traditional panel design with the fused panels sometime though.

yeah, did you not have trouble with distance and flight control. I was having all kinds of problems. One time it would fly on me, the next it would go true, then knuckle completely away from my teammate etc. The spin, which I thought would suck, was really pretty good. I just couldnt keep it down on long range shots (in game....obviously it isnt tough just warming up from stand still and no game situation etc.)
