"An ESPN.com survey of NFL drafts from 1979 to 2009 revealed USC, Miami, Pittsburgh and Florida State produced the most fertile NFL draft pipelines over the past three decades.

The survey awarded one point for each player who was named NFL most valuable player, defensive player of the year, offensive player of the year or All-Pro (first- or second-team) and one point for each Pro Bowl appearance."

It's only looking at the past 30 years and it's looking at the quality of the players that a school puts into the NFL, not the total number.

The NFL Network recently ran a special about the top NFL producing colleges of all time. The top five looked like this.

1. USC
2. Miami
3. Notre Dame
4. Ohio State
5. Michigan

This was an all time list and I think they looked more at the total number of players drafted from each school rather than the quality of those players.

I must say Pitt has had some great players make the pros. Obviously you have historical guys like Dorsett, Marino, Mark May (say what you want about him as an analyst, he is a HOF player), Hugh Green, Mike Ditka, and Bill Fralic, Tony Saragusa, Rickey Jackson, Curtis Martin, Ironhead Heyward, Russ Grim; but you also have current great players like Larry Fitzgerald, Darrelle Revis, Reuben Brown, and Shady McCoy.

And it's not just about the last 30 years, but only about players who were all-pro in the last 30 years. Not total number of players put into the NFL. Basically ESPN is looking at quality over quantity.
