Celtics GM Ainge seen tossing towel

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge was spotted in TV replays throwing a towel in the air to distract the Cleveland Cavaliers at the foul line.

If it's it within the rules, hey, at this time, you do whatever you can to win. As long as it's within the rules.

-- Cavaliers coach Mike Brown
Ainge was sitting in the first seat to the right of Cleveland's basket. He tossed the white towel during forward J.J. Hickson's second attempt with 1:53 remaining in the third quarter of Boston's 104-86 win over the Cavaliers on Monday night. Hickson made his second free throw.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank said he was unaware of Ainge's actions.

Ainge stood on Hickson's first shot but made only slight movements with his upper body. He then sat down and clapped after Hickson missed.

Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said he saw Ainge's towel toss.

"That was interesting to see that happen during the flow of the game, from Danny Ainge," Brown said. "If it's it within the rules, hey, at this time, you do whatever you can to win. As long as it's within the rules."

The Cavs have been missing free throws all year. Has Ainge been following them around all year waving a towel?

I personally don't think it's a big deal....But if the Danny doing it was Ferry, instead of Ainge....there would be an uproar on this site.

Ainge was such a great competitor on the floor. Loved his attitude and toughness to play and win.

LOL at his antics, but it's all fair.

It's bush league?!?! How so???

It's alright when fans throw shit and do shit during FT's but not a GM??? OK.

Yes, bush league.

You're an executive. You're held to a higher standard. That's the only problem I have with this--it's not a big deal, but Ainge is a douche for doing this. If it were Ferry, I'd say the same shit. It's not very professional. That's the reason the fans are there.

My feelings exactly.

He was soooo fiery when he played....so this doesn't surprise me at all.

If this were Mark Cuban, he would be fined.

Rightfully so, because reputation is what it is. He's put that on himself.

Agreed but I think this is worse than a few things Cuban has done and been fined for. I don't think the whole thing is a big deal just stating that Ainge is getting away with something Stern would fine Cuban for in a heartbeat.

I know what you're saying, but the difference is Ainge says "no comment". Cuban turns loud mouth to the media and screws himself.

Yep the towel caused Hickson to miss a 12 point free throw. They lost by freaking 18.
If it's 0:01 in a tie game in OT, we have a story. Wait-- he is the Boston GM-- he was throwing in the towel. Call David Stern- Boston quit-- Cavs are up 2-0!!
