Hendrix is one of the best guitarists of all time and he is overrated? haha

I don't know how you could argue that the Rolling Stones are overrated. They have a ton of great songs and they have been relevant for about 4 decades.

Kiss is bad. No arguments there. Take the makeup and BS away and I'd be interested to see how famous they'd be.

That's exactly why Hendrix is overrated--because he's called one of the greatest and THE greatest by many. He's not. He's not a 10 ten guitarist that ever lived--he was an innovator and paved the way for a lot of things, and he should get credit for that--he does, but the wrong sort of credit. I'm a HUGE Hendrix fan, but I don't think he's anywhere near the top of the GOAT guitarist list.

The Stones and Kiss are both bands that have stayed relevant because of marketing genius. Not because their music is good. Of course both have made songs that I love--but have you ever heard of a one hit wonder? Any band can create a few good songs--the majority of there stuff sucks ass, vast majority really. They're just really smart in the business side of things--not exceptional musicians. Nickelback falls into the same category. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it--I always hated when someone called a band a sell out, because I'd sell out and in a heartbeat. Why not get handsomely paid for what you love? I'm just sayin', there are bands that strike it rich that aren't that great from a music standpoint.

I like other groups better than LZ but that song ^^ is hard to beat.
It's top ten,

The Beatles aren't in my Top 10 but I give them credit when it's due.

I wouldn't have Rush in my top 1,000,000,000.

Rush is very underrated, they have a different style so some don't like it, but their music is actually incredible.

Led Zeppelin is great no doubt but not nearly the influence of the Beatles.

Really LZ stole a lot of stuff from blues players and did not give them credit on their LPs and it is easy to hear some of the stuff taken from blues players.
The Beatles did the same thing. So did Elvis. And so did basically everyone else from that time. All rock and roll rooted from blues music and the Beatles are just as guilty as 'stealing' it as Led Zeppelin and everyone else.

It's an opinion, so anyone could have a different list. I have no issues about people putting Hendrix in their top 10, but as far as skill, he isn't one of the 10 best. Other reasons propel him to the top, as mentioned, but I don't think a lot of people realize that a lot of his hype comes from how he innovated. Not saying he isn't GREAT, like I said, I'm a huge Hendrix fan. You don't have to be a great musician to make great music.

You said Hendrix isn't in your top 10. So... who is your top 10? This should be interesting haha. I don't expect you to answer. You have already avoided the question once.

But the Beatles are WAY overrated. They get farrrr too much credit for their influence and timing--it doesn't mean they were the best. Mediocre at best, people have just had them forced down their throats for years and years and fucking yearsssssssss.
LOL

you could say they weren't the most talented musicians but to say their influence is overrated? you would be hard pressed to find any rock artist that's been around for more than 10yrs that wouldn't list the beatles in their top 5 and/or have covered several of their songs.

No, no, what I mean is they get too much credit as musicians because they get so much credit for their influence. Same with Hendrix.

imo influence on other musicians and having your songs/lyrics be relevant to any generation are what make a band great, and the beatles are #1 in this department. of course all the bands mentioned in this thread do that in some capacity.

Despite this, Zeppelin is still the GOAT.

So by your theory, Elvis is the least best artist ever.
You either have a logic or grammar fail.

Zeppelin is the most over-rated band of all time. They only have one good song

Pink Floyd's catalog is much better.

Top 5 for me:

1.The Eagles
2.Lynyrd Skynyrd
3.The Beatles
4.Rolling Stones
5.Queen

For a RnR blues list this is pretty nice. I would drop SRV because he sounds just like Albert King.

I would drop Page also he is a bit sloppy in his leads. I would put Malmsteen ahead of him

I would put Carlos Santana in my top then also.

Of course this is only if it is a RnR and blues list you have country guys that blow the doors off many guitar players.

LMAO, my bad boys...I didn't even noticed that someone called me out.

Jimmy Page
Clapton
SRV
Robert Johnson
Warren Haynes
Malmsteen
Satriani
Vai
BB King
Slash
Beck
Allman

Tim Reynolds of DMB is a better guitarist than Hendrix.

Like I said, I have no problem with putting Hendrix in your top 10--but people need to realize that it isn't all about him being the greatest guitarist ever. There even more guys that I listed who were better guitarists than Hendrix, he gets a lot of credit for his influence and innovation. Which is fine, but most people have a false notion that he was really a better guitarist than a lot of these other guys. Not really fair to a lot of these other guys.

List is in no particular order, by the way.

And it isn't the list of my favorite guitarists, Hendrix would be in that top ten.
