Maybe he was just opening up the interview with a joke to break the ice and Dez took it the wrong way???

"what’s the difference between you and a Mallard with a cold? One’s a sick duck, I can’t remember how it ends, but your mother’s a whore!"

based on what I've heard, it was to support a drug habit more than her family.

like I say, that is hearsay and I took it with a grain of salt since I don't know the woman, or her criminal record.

Bryants grandmas was a crack dealer and bryant's mom wouldn't testify against her so the grandma got 40 years and the mom got 20. This happened when Bryant was 12.

That's what I heard yesterday...

I think the meeting went something like this:

Ireland: I want to thank you and your mother for coming to meet with me Dez. As you know, our organization likes to meet with the entire family before deciding on picking a player. Why don't the two of you have a seat.
Dez's Mom: Hey baby, you want to party?
Ireland (looking confused): Uhh, anyways, Dez I want you to know that this organization is not just about making money and we consider our players more than just property. We are a very fair organization. We will pay you handsomely.
Dez's Mom: For $300, we can do it all night!
Ireland (again confused): Uh, anyways, I've watched your games on TV. I saw you in the combines. I think you can fill a few holes we have on this team.
Dez's Mom: Baby, for $300 you can fill any whole you want!
Ireland (now irritated--- but whispers to Dez): Psst.. Dez, is your mom a prostitute or something?

:):D

That's what I was thinking.

Before signing Jackie Robinson was signed by Brooklyn, Branch Rickey called Robinson into his office and spent the better part of 20 minutes spewing the most vile racial abuse that could possibly be imagined. After sitting there and taking it, Robinson asked, "Are you looking for someone who doesn't have the courage to fight back?" Rickey said, "I'm looking for someone with the courage NOT to fight back. This is what you're going to have to deal with, shameful though it may be." And we all know how that story turned out.

LMAO!
"My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I'm considering drafting. Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions," Ireland said Tuesday in a statement released by the Dolphins.
In depth questions? Has your father ever wanked his johnson at the dinner table? Ummm lets see have you ever participated in cannibalism? and last but not least Is your mother a prostitute?

That GM is an idiot.

Third.

I have no problem with this question before committing millions of dollars to a 22 year old. I want to know about his (and family's) past and if he can take verbal abuse about facts. I did not see how he asked it, but it could be done with couth.

There is a reason a top five player was selected in the mid twenties.

Same reason why Tebow was drafted in 1st round instead of 3rd? Why wasn't he the first overall pick? Why was Myron Rolle selected in the 6th round?

I'm sorry, Ireland was completely right by asking this question. Don't you think if his mother is/was a prostitute that the inforation would eventually be leaked to the press. Can you imagine the potential backlash that would befall the organization when it is discovered one of his player's mothers is turning tricks down on Sunset? What's more, what if while his mom is hooking, she is involved in a huge drug raid or gulp, there is some type of scandal involving members of the team utilizing Bryant's mothers service? ESPN, FOXSPORTS along with the TMZ's of the world will be all over Ireland and others in the Dolphins organization asking them when did they know and what action they would take.

It is the reality of the world we live in. Don't you think the Rooney's would have loved to have known Big Ben likes to get drunk and screw college co-eds in nightclub restrooms?

$64,000 question (didn't think it was worth a different thread)....does/should Goodell discipline Ireland?

Depends what the real story was.

If he straight up asked em if his mother is a prostitute, then yes.

If he kinda trimmed around the question, and asked in a less offending way..then no.

Absolutely not.

Rob Konrad came out earlier and said the following:
"It's important to keep in mind the context of these interviews, the prospect of guaranteeing a 22-year-old stranger millions of dollars to enter one of the most competitive, intolerant and insensitive professional work environments around. I'm not attempting to defend the question asked, but rather the person and the process. Having been through those interviews, in the locker room and on the field, I can tell you that the work environment in the NFL is unique, one that would be unacceptable in virtually any other industry. The questions asked by teams in pre-draft interviews usually have the dual purpose of getting to know the player and testing their mindset.

When I was coming out of Syracuse University, I remember being asked 'if I thought I could succeed as a white running back in the NFL?' and 'why I thought a kid who attended a suburban Massachusetts private high school was tough enough to play in the NFL? If one were interviewing a prospective executive for private industry, this line of questioning likely wouldn't be acceptable."

If Ireland gets disciplined I'd be shocked.

this does lead me to believe that the Dolphins were 100% set on taking Dez at the 12 spot before the Marshall trade.

Most of these players troubles comes from their close circle of friends and family. If Dez is going to bring his mom with him to Dallas I'm sure the team needs to know if she is/was a crackhead hooker.

There was a report that Ireland asked this question in a series that would make some sense:
Bryant: "My dad was a pimp."
Ireland: "What did your mom do [for a living]?"
Bryant: "She worked for my dad."
Ireland: "Your mom was a prostitute?"
Bryant: "No, she wasn't a prostitute."
Dez calls bullshit on that report

well this has become more interesting. I wonder if the Dez Bryant saying it was a lie was the same one who lied to the NCAA?
