I thought he used his alias at the hotel and the truck rental he used his real name (I am thinking he thought the truck would be destroyed in the bombing and they wouldn't be able to identify it) but the they found the rear axle of the truck that contained a VIN # and it was rented by McVeigh.

I could be wrong but I thought they mentioned thye had a physical description of the guy who rented the truck and matched it to a guy who was staying at a local hotel under the name Timothy McVeigh.

I can't totally remember and don't feel like looking it up but either way he used his real name at the truck/hotel and that didn't help him at all!!

I'm pretty sure it was the other way around. I'm pretty sure he gave a fake name to the truck rental place and used his real name for the hotel.
