I have to admit I'm pleasantly surprised. One thing that characterizes a young team is inconsistent play, and that is what we are seeing. The thing that concerns me the most is the black hole in the lineup where the catcher bats. Lou Marson is obviously not ready to hit in the majors, and you can't win if you are giving up an automatic out every time the batting order recycles.

Yeah, I'm one on the one who bitches particularly about the Lee trade, because it should be pretty obvious that an owner committed to winning doesn't dump salary just to save a few bucks. This team doesn't look that bad NOW. How much better would it have looked if you had an actual proven ace in the rotatation? Just how did that trade help this team? Carlos Carrasco? A single A pitcher with a bad arm?...and Lou Marson is easily replaceable. What are the actual odds that ANY of those players become anything more than average MLB players? IMO Dolan broke an unwritten covenant with the fans. He sold out a good team and a chance at contention for a few dollars....and in the grand scheme of MLB salaries...Cliff Lee's salary was only a few dollars.

The way the fans are staying away from the Park in Cleveland tells me that they are finish trusting those who have taken this organization back to the 70's.

NCF...You and I don't always see eye to eye, but I'm not afraid to give you credit when you are spot on.....and you are spot on with the 'return to the 70's'.
From looking at the attendance numbers, the tribe shed at least 4000 season ticket holders...and at an average of $2000-$2500 perseason ticket has to translate at least to a loss in $8-10million in revenue (approximately Lee's 2010 salary). Not to mention concessions, other fans staying away due to lack of interest etc. etc.
Loss of fans = less money to pay good players which translates into less interest which means less fans...and the cycle continues till you hit a base minimum. The result is a minimum # of baseball fans supporting a major league minimum team...perennial mediocrity. Young players are developed, mature, then are traded away for more young players just as they get near the top of their game before you have to pay them.

consider this....I personallly know two other guys who had groups that bought season tickets. Of the 3 groups, only our group renewed...and that was at the last moment after considerable debate. I kept our group together only after picking up two from the other groups, and even then I had to buy 5 extra games myself. The guys in my group are diehard baseball guys, but even we waivered...and the chance of renewal next year is probably 50-50. The owner has to give to fans some hope, otherwise there is no incentive for us to buy 81 games. With no hope of postseason, it will be easier for us to just buy tickets to the games we want(plenty of good seats available)....and not worry about going to cold April games or meaningless September games.

It seems the Dolan family continues not to get what it takes to own and run a professional sports franchise. The Shapiro promotion continues to amaze me. Sure he got lucky on a couple of his talent finds in the past, but he doesn't seem to have the knack for finding those diamonds in the rough like Hart did. The teams of the mid to late 90's were build on kids Hart either developed into players or traded in from other teams and then polished them up to become great players.

I remember the 70's and the Indian's, and yes it does seem like they are headed right back there.

The Dolan's either need to spend some of their own money or sell the team, you cannot continue to treat your loyal fan base the way they are.

But the point is, you cannot win if you cannot afford to hold on to your best players.....and we are not only talking plural....in our case it appears to be singular. We can't even hold on to one player. Worse, to save money, we are willing to move that player at a considerable discount, and not even get full value.
