I love this pick. Love that the staff stuck to not taking him in the 2nd when they had other needs. Still got McCoy. Now the fiancé will watch browns games!!!

Delhomme is definitely this years starter. McCoy is obviously the future now. But let's not rush him. Let him learn the system. Get a feel for the level of play. Maybe bring him in for the occasional play later this year. But if things go bad with Delhomme starting, please, please please, resist the urge to shove McCoy into the starting spot.

Delhomme is the starter. I'm sure it wasn't intentional but they got some SERIOUS value with the McCoy pick.

Great value pick....still wish they would have taken Kindle in the 2nd, but getting Colt at 85 is great.

Like I said this was a good pick for Cleveland but knowing that being drafted to play QB for cleceland has been a sure death for QB's as of late. Poor Colt.

You could say the same thing about alot of teams.
Give this leadership team a shot. I like Holmgren.

Terrible choice....

Should have been Lefevour.

McCoy will be a complete and total failure in Cleveland

And don't start with the Tebow will be too. Tim can shift over to another position (TE,HB,FB) if he doesn't work out as a QB. What can McCoy do if he falters?? Nothing

It's like centralbuckeyefan but for a different team.

Well that's good. Now I hope Mangini doesn't screw this all up. Hopefully he won't be such a jerk this year. I hope he learned his lesson. No more bus trips or stupid fines.

Look at the source there are a certain group of posters who think this that sort of thing is funny.

Should not be long until this one is changed.

It's not a maturity thing, it's an effective/simpler way to get the point across of how I (and I am sure others) interpreted what you said.

Why would I write a paragraph to tell you why I disagree when I can simply bold edit one sentence and accomplish the same thing?

I like being concise.

Do you honestly think that Holmgren would allow Mangini to get away with that BS? Mangini knows his power base has been neutered and that Holmgren likely has Chucky (Gruden) on speed dial.

Browns Get Their Quarterback

By Fred Greetham
OBR Browns Reporter
Posted Apr 23, 2010

They waited patiently until the middle of the third round, but the Browns land Texas QB Colt McCoy. Stationed in Berea, Fred Greetham brings us the reaction from the newest Browns signal caller...

BEREA—How’s that for drama?

After all of the speculation of whether the Browns would trade up in order to get Colt McCoy, they used the pick they had acquired in the Kamerion Wimbley trade to select him.

McCoy said he received the call from Mike Holmgren and Eric Mangini.

“It was awesome,” McCoy said. “My heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t be more excited.

“He asked me if it has been a long day,” he said. “He then said, ‘We want you to be a Cleveland Brown.’ I told him you won’t regret it and we win a lot of games.”

McCoy said since the time he visited the Browns, he felt Cleveland would be a nice home for him.

“I really liked the city,” he said. “It’s a blue-collar town and that’s where I came from.”

McCoy won 45 games in 53 career starts at Texas. He was a two-time AP All-American who finished his career with 47 school records, including most wins, completions, attempts, touchdown passes and passing yards.

Yet he dropped to the 85th spot. To put more emphasis on the situation, McCoy was shadowed by ESPN on Thursday and Friday.

“It was tough,” he said. “I understand that teams have needs and not everybody needs a quarterback. “

McCoy said he will use the snub to drive him.

“I’ll definitely use it as motivation,” McCoy said. “I’m obviously confident in my abilities as a quarterback and I’ll definitely use it as motivation.”

Holmgren said that Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace were veteran quarterbacks he hoped to have bridge the gap while the team developed a young quarterback.

Delhomme had said he would welcome grooming a young quarterback.

“I fully expect to come in there and work with Jake and work my tail off to be the best and to produce when I get the opportunity,” he said. “I spent some time with Jake Delhomme and to learn from him will be really exciting.”

McCoy has been known for his accuracy with a career percentage of 70.33. He threw 112 touchdowns and 45 interceptions.

“I do think my accuracy is my strength,” he said. “I want to be the best and will work to accomplish that.”

The last time the Browns took a quarterback in the third round was when they selected Charlie Frye with the 67th overall pick in 2005.

For the Browns to get McCoy without trading up to get him, the Browns feel they received good value.

“When you look back in three or four years this might be the best pick the Cleveland Browns made,” Mel Kiper, Jr. said on ESPN after the pick was made.

Gibby thinks a mid major QB who has never played under center is a better NFL prospect than a guy who is the winningest QB at a major college in NCAA history -- and yet he wonders why people on here consider him a total doofus when it comes to evaluating talent?

Then throw in the Tebow knob slobbering 24/7 and it's like the most toxic brew of homerism and willful ignorance we've seen since he posted something about Obama and healthcare reform. :)

Seriously, dude, you are damn near delusional with your talent evaluation of some players on here.

Colt McCoy is a value pick in the 3rd round. He will sit the bench and learn, look for spot play.

Wynn will be the back up should Delhomme go down. No need to rush Colt he knows the WC offense so this is a good fit.
