I have been traveling, so I haven't been on the site much, so my apologies if this was covered: what are your thoughts on Thaddeus Gibson? I have seen him projected anywhere from the 2nd to 4th rounds ... was it a big mistake leaving school early? I would have to assume he was a safe-bet first rounder next year if he stayed.

Like Brady Quinn hurt Jimmy Clausen, Vernon Gholston is hurting Thad.

No guarantee of there being a NFL season next year. Smart move by him to get paid now, instead of risking it.

Interesting take, I hadn't thought of that actually.

Forget getting paid. What about making an impact in the NFL. Why like the bench???? Thad is being hurt by Vernon in a way, but then again I think he should have stayed. Why leave early to be a 2nd rounder or later.

Because there is not going to be anywhere to get drafted to next year?

If there is a lockout no one is going to get paid

AKA there may be a draft but there will be no contracts

I thought Coleman would be drafted by now. Not many Bucks available this year, but when's the last time no Buckeyes picked in the first 3 rounds?

When is the last time a player from Ohio U was drafted before the first player from OSU? I am going to guess never.

Ok can we all just be realistic for a second? There is not going to be a lockout in 2011, at least not one that jeopardizes the draft or season. The NFL makes way too much money and can't afford a lockout and both parties know it. The labor issue will be resolved before the 2011. It's a fun thing to talk about, but there's just too much money at stake to allow it to happen.

Mistake to leave. If he was going to be a first rounder then I could see it, but just a dumb decision on his part.

He probably couldn't have ended up in a better place though.

I know absolutely nothing about Gibson's academic body of work (he may be a potential Rhodes Scholar for all I know) - but as a whole, an amazing number of the borderline NFL bailouts do so with a eye toward impending doom in terms of grades - or an utter distaste for the classroom work.

Pro football has had a history of lockouts over the years. And there's a big issue on pensions for the older players.

While you are correct, the last one was way back in the Rozelle era. The game has changed A LOT since then, and makes way more money these days. There's a lot more at stake then in any of the previous lockout situations.

Well, that sucks, but it also means that the 5 time defending Big Ten Champion and defending Rose Bowl Champs are returning most of their team.
