I don't think it's that big of a deal, IMO. Annoying? Yes. Unfair? Yes. But something to get upset about? Probably not.

There were 4 of us that lived in an apartment when I was in college. Two of us in each of the two bedrooms. It was basically the battle of the bedrooms. One of the roommmates from the other bedroom got aggrivated that we were putting stuff in the fridge (I think he thought we were taking up too much room?), so he DREW A MAP of what parts of the fridge belonged to whom. He literally had the main shelves and door shelves mapped out, with divisions color-coded so each person knew where they could put the groceries they had bought. If something was not in the correct spot, it was MOVED.

scarlet buckeye.....I've figured out who you are. You're MY WIFE!!!! Why in the world would you possibly spend a minute and a half writing this ridiculous story when you could have spent 45 seconds and just put away the dishes? We've had this exact same scenario happen in our house at least 100 times. The cupboard that the dishes go in is DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DISHWASHER....emptying our entire dishwasher is no more than a 45 second job, yet she will spend 5 minutes trying to figure out and complaining about why somebody didn't put some/all of the dishes away instead of just doing it herself.

I understand your frustration. Dishwashers w/ roomates suck because everyone wants to use it, but MOST don't want to unload it.

If you were all using the dishwasher, then I think what he did is okay, kind of like a sink, clean what you dirty. However, I agree that it's the right thing to do-1st
to see the clean dishwasher, unload it.

My thing was that everyone I lived with knew I was a neat freak, so they would wait for me to get pissed enough about the dishes to do them myself instead of someone else doing them. Same thing with taking out the trash. I literally spent 2 hrs doing the dishes because EVERYTHING (literally) was in the sink or counter top waiting to be cleaned. I was dtermined not to do them because I always did them, but almost a week went by and I couldn't take it anymore.

My college roomates and I had a trash war. One of my roomates broke his leg, so he claimed he couldn't take out the trash. I was the only one who did for a couple of months and then I asked our other roomate about it. He said to let him know when it was full. His room was in the basement, so when the trash can got full I started tossing the trash down the stairs. He complained and I said "Hmmm, I guess the trash can was full." We never really resolved it until we moved out, but we all laught about it now.

When I was still in the dorms, my roomate was this snotty douche from Hudson (we got along ok) and he thought he was just the shit.

Well, for some reason he didn't think that he had to take the trash out (Always said he didn't have time, or the dumpster wasn't on his way to class). One day I decided to dump the entire can/bag all over his bed with a note that said "Can you please take the trash out?" Hahaha.

I loved the dorms and the crazy stuff I did.

It's annoying and moderately selfish but not a particularly big deal. I wouldn't sweat it.

Some people are just bad at thinking about others and stuff. This is part of living with dudes. Trust me, if this is the worst problem you have with the guy, you're blessed.

I lived with 5 guys in Montana. Trust me, I've seen it all.

You have no idea what a bad roommate is. I had one that trumps all of those. SQ can be a witness to that.

I had that issue. My one roommate cooks every day, but doesn't clean. And when he does clean, he lives them out to "dry" on the counter top and never puts them away. They never get really dry. It's fucking stupid.

So finally I did all the dishes, took all the dishes that were mine home. That left like 3 cups, 2 plates, and 1 bowl. I have 1 plate and 1 bowl in my room.

Haha this describes my roommate perfectly as well, its almost creepy. I have never acknowledged it. It is just his personality. He doesn't even use any of my dishes. I was kinda irked the first few times but then it just became the norm. No big deal after awhile. The way I looked at it was you now have an excuse to only care about your dishes.

Sweet Jebus!!! My senior year of college, one of my housemates nearly burned our place down because he put food in the oven and then passed out drunk on the couch. The other two of us came back from the bar to a very smoky place and him completely fucked up with a story of getting woke up by the smoke alarm, ripping it out of the wall, taking care of the problem in the kitchen and miraculously handling a phone call by the fire department in a way that didn't send various authority figures to our place. Our reaction was to laugh our asses off, grab a few beers and a bong and rock on for another couple of hours.

I get the feeling that if you were in our house, you'd have been made very unwelcome about .00000000121 hours into your very brief time there.

At least your roommate does the dishes. Mine makes all this shit and lets it soak (at best, usually his dirty dishes just sit on the stove for a couple days until he needs them again)

The reason for the two sets of dishes is because I originally didn't have enough dishes to supply three guys and their three girlfriends. Therefore, we needed an extra set and he purchased some.

That's why me and my buddy just used paper plates and plastic cups when we lived together. We were both really shitty with doing dishes...and it was so much easier to just throw the dishes away when we were done.
