I've had a Dell refurb laptop for 5 yrs now w/ absolutely no problems. However, I wouldn't buy a Dell phone unless they were well established in the market, and I think it will be very hard for them to pull it off!

At the organization i work for...we use Dell desktops exclusively, and no complaints thus far. Of course, laptops are another story. :D

Hell, my friend who interviewed at Google even told me that they seem to have a partnership with Dell and he noticed lots of Dell around the buildings.

Don't really hear any complaints, and this is coming from a bunch of engineers, programmers, etc.

Of course, they might not buy them for home use all that often, but they certainly work well enough in a professional setting.

Dell service is God awful. Need an interpreter to converse with them. No more Dell for me.

Because they have only been testing it for a short time. Just wait. Every Windows Mobile operating system has been complete shit. Windows Mobile 7 will be no different. And when it completely flops (as expected) it will pretty much be the end for Windows Mobile.

There will be 3 main platforms when the dust settles: Apple, Android, and Blackberry.

The iPhone will be available at all carriers...and Android and Blackberry are already there. Blackberry will always have the enterprise market cornered...and Apple and Android will duke it out for the rest of the PDA marketshare.

Trust me...Windows Mobile 7 will be the end of the Windows OS on smartphones.

Except this isn't built on Windows Mobile like past versions have been. It's a new architecture. It's based off of some of the Zune HD ideas which were awesome.

It isn't expected to flop either. And the industry people impressed with it have consistently been harsh on Windows Mobile of late (6, 6.1, 6.5). Engadget and Gizmodo come to mind.

I'll put money on Windows Phone 7 not being Microsoft's last smartphone OS.

And it isn't "the Windows OS", Windows Mobile was never related to the desktop version of Windows, it was built on Windows CE. And the new version isn't even based on that from what I've gathered which is probably why they aren't calling it Windows Mobile 7 but rather Windows Phone 7.

By Windows OS...I'm just talking about the operating system of the phone. It's a Windows OS, just like it's Android OS, and Web OS on Palms, and RIM's OS on Blackberries.

And believe me, the general public is not expecting Windows Mobile 7 to do well. Every time a new Windows system comes out, Windows fan boys jizz their pants thinking it's going to be revolutionary and have so much more stability than the last one. And every time, it blows.

Windows is not an entertainment driven platform. They have a very limited selection of applications, and the ones that are available are always really expensive (anywhere from $15-$30). So with that in mind, it's easy to agree that the Windows OS is geared toward the Enterprise customer. But Windows has a long way to go to catch up to Blackberry, and will constantly be measured up to it. Since customers will almost always choose Blackberry over Windows, it's safe to assume that the Windows OS will fall by the wayside pretty soon.

I nerded out there a bit, my bad. I think it'll depend on how they market this as far as general public reception. If they showcase the Zune features (being able to use Zune pass on the phone is a big deal), the Xbox Live integration, and the integration with Office/Outlook (assuming they have more to show on that front) then I think Windows Phone 7 can be a big player in the marketplace.

Although I'd dispute that Windows is not an entertainment driven platform (talking about mobile). Windows Phone is now branched under and devoloped by Microsoft's Devices and Entertainment Division. The same guys that brought you the Xbox and Zune. Microsoft's been pretty on the ball since they started working on Windows 7.

I can understand that they are making improvements, but there is so much negative perception around Windows Mobile that it's a huge mountain to overcome. Every rep that I've talked to feels that Windows is dead, and they don't want to position the phone to customers. They'd much rather sell an Android phone.

If the reps are confident in a phone or OS, they will try to talk customers out of it. Of course, some customers are still going to want the phone. But the second something goes wrong, and the customer brings the phone back into the store...the rep will tell the customer that they told them Windows wasn't stable and try to get them to exchange for a new phone.

Reps are generally idiots. Seriously.

And there was incredible negative perception around Windows Vista. Then comes Windows 7 which is the fastest selling operating system ever.
